5.0 out of 5 stars Ringo is Santa!
Personally, I hope that Ringo never grows up. He adds so much life and happiness to a world full of problems.

This is truly a very charming album of Christmas favorites that feature Ringo doing rockabilly, crooning, rocking, and just having a grand old time. From the opening track on this CD, you can tell that Ringo is having a wonderful time recording this CD...

3.0 out of 5 stars It's a festive Ringo!
What can I say? It's Ringo Starr singing Christmas songs. That pretty much describes it. It's kind of fun. He puts a little oomph into some songs and gets into the rhythm and blues at other times. His "Little Drummer Boy" sounds like "Back Off Boogaloo" with bells. He does his own version of the rare Beatles Christmas song "Christmas Time is...

5.0 out of 5 stars Ringo is Santa!, March 17, 2004

Personally, I hope that Ringo never grows up. He adds so much life and happiness to a world full of problems.

This is truly a very charming album of Christmas favorites that feature Ringo doing rockabilly, crooning, rocking, and just having a grand old time. From the opening track on this CD, you can tell that Ringo is having a wonderful time recording this CD.

Ringo takes on old standards such as Rudolph, the Red Nosed Reindeer, The Little Drummer Boy, and Winter Wonderland. These cuts remind me of the same happy Ringo who recorded the "No No Song" from Good Night Vienna.

But, the highligh of this CD has to be Ringo's "interpretation" of the Beatles "Christmas Time Is Here Again." This little novelty piece was released as a fan club recording in 1967. Well, Ringo makes it so much better with rich instrumentation -- to include bagpipes. I give the last track, Pax Um Biscum an honorable mention because Ringo employs the sitar on this song (shades of his mate, George Harrison). Listen to the opening tracks. . . . Shades of Instant Karma! What a tribute to another fallen band mate, John Lennon!

This is a great CD, and not just for the Christmas season. Ringo turned out a gem with this CD -- and, we definitely appreciate it. Ringo is Santa Claus!

5.0 out of 5 stars FINALLY!!! A BREATH OF FRESH AIR INTO CHRISTMAS SONGS!, June 10, 2005
This review is from: Christmas Collection: 20th Century Masters (Audio CD)
I don't really like Christmas songs at all. My wife always plays them during the holidays and I just have to suffer through it. However, one Christmas she had the cable tv on holiday songs and Ringo's Christmas songs started playing. It sounded so fresh compared to every Christmas song I've ever heard - I loved it! This album is awesome and I like listening to it year round. I love Ringo's smooth voice and I think Little Drummer Boy is perfect. Rudolph to me has elements of classic Beatles in it and I love the sound. It's like the Beatles have a new album out! Oh, one more thing...GET THIS CD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best Christmas record the Beatles never made, December 18, 2005
By
This review is from: Christmas Collection: 20th Century Masters (Audio CD)
This is a great record -- I am totally amazed that a musical artist would make such an effort for what is usually an easy novelty-sell. But Ringo and company have gone all out. It's a love-in for the era that Ringo came out of, and sounds strongly reminiscent of recordings made by a certain group Ringo used to be in... Together with co-producer Mark Hudson, Starr has re-created the studio sound and harmonies of the Beatles -- in a fun way. Ringo nay-sayers should also note that Ringo plays drums on all tracks, unlike some of his notorious recordings of the drunken years. He also wrote a whole slew of Christmas songs and they could easlily become standards in their own right. This album is nice -- and it also rocks. I think if people listen they might gain or re-gain a lot of respect for Ringo. And as far as the non-existent Beatles Christmas record goes -- the musicians here actually do cover an old Beatles Christmas song you never heard (they used to do one-offs for the fan club). You go, Ringo!

This is the perfect christmas CD. It combines traditional and new songs, and it is both funny and touching. Compared to other Christmas CDs that are available, this stands out because it gives you a little flavor of the familiar (Little Drummer Boy, Rudolph) while giving you a nice dose of catchy, off-beat songs like I wanna be Santa Claus. You won't go wrong with Ringo.

4.0 out of 5 stars Unnoticed but good, January 27, 2006

For some reason, this release never received major radio airplay or big display space in the stores. It was a very low key release for being the only Beatles full length Christmas CD. With Ringo, you know the Little Drummer Boy will be here and the set list is fairly traditional. It may not be the best holiday CD you'll ever hear but it is well done and enjoybale. It's a lot better than most of the CDs you;ll see in the stores with 50 copies on hand.

Actually, I kind of like this one better than the very unique Fab Four original. Ringo sings like Ringo. He use bagpipes riffs from time to time. Some of the songs are originals and others are classics. It's a fun CD to put up your tree up by.

I am not sure, but I assume this is the same Christmas album that Ringo released in 2001, called I Wanna Be Santa Claus. At least the tracks are the same. Anyway, my wife and I really enjoy putting this on, especially at year's end, but also anytime of year, it is really infectious.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pax Um Biscum - a paisley pop Christmas!, December 23, 2007
Well, I can't speak for the whole album, but the Pax Um Biscum track which I just downloaded is brilliant! I happen to catch the tail end of it on Little Steven's Underground Garage tonight, and it sounded like a lost Beatle track. It's certainly combines the wonderful elements of their psychedelic period - backwards guitar, strings, and sitar with great backing vocals that sound very much like George and Paul. Ringo and Mark Hudson did a fabulous job capturing the sound of his old band. I'd love to hear more songs done in this style by him.
