The Nativity in Art,

This review is from: The Christmas Creche: Treasure of Faith, Art, and Theater (Hardcover)
Father Powell does a great job of collecting creche and paintings from around the world dating from the Middle Ages to modern times. The book begins with famous paintings depicting the birth of Christ, and then switches to photos of creche from around the world. Simple primitive creche to fancy glorified creche are shown and explained. All continents and cultures are represented. He explains the development and history of the creche and the unusual ideas expressed in each. The photos are glorious. This book can be a "coffee table" book, a devotional book to be savored by Christians during the Christmas season, or simply enjoyed from the perspective of art. I love it and highly recommend it. I am glad to see it so readily available because I had to try several times over a period of months to obtain it because it was out of print.
