3.0 out of 5 stars Repeat from Book 1
The book was a good little read, but so was the first one. Girl is sad, girl meets new boy. They kiss, they struggle for the "right" thing to do and they fall in love.... This second book was so similar to the first book I felt cheated. Just the names were changed! I am going to read the third book beacause I have seen it got good reviews, but please don't let the third...

A CHRISTMAS TO DIE FOR is the second in The Three Sisters Inn trilogy. This is the first book I've read in the series so I can verify that it is easily read as a stand alone. However, there is what appears to be a significant spoiler from the first book that is revealed in the conclusion of A CHRISTMAS TO DIE FOR so you may want to read this series in order.

Marta Perry does a beautiful job at creating characters who are both likeable and show a lot of depth in their emotions. Rachel's plight touched my heart instantly. She is still recovering from a hit and run accident (apparently addressed in the first book, HIDE IN PLAIN SIGHT) and her fears are understandable. Years ago, I too was involved in a hit and run incident where I was a pedestrian so I immediately felt a bond with Rachel. Her desire to have a family Christmas, despite some of the past upheavals in her own life, is both understandable and heart wrenching.

A CHRISTMAS TO DIE FOR is a poignant tale set in the midst of the Amish people. The setting is just as important as the mystery and characters themselves, as the ambiance makes the story all the more powerful. I will definitely be reading the other two books in this series!

5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely not a Xmas story, July 1, 2008

Sit and enjoy the reading. If you're planing a long flight you could read all the book in that flight. The story is good for any age because it doesn't have curses or bad words or sex or anything scary but this is not a Xmas story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great suspense, January 1, 2008

Although Rachel Hampton has survived a hit and run accident, and is able to resume helping run the Three Sisters Inn, she's still a bit wary. Was the hit and run an accident? Or did someone hit her on purpose. Then Tylor Dunn comes to stay at the Inn. He believes his grandfather was murdered, and he wants to know what happened, but no one will talk about it. His search stirs up old memories and rouses a killer, and Rachel is the intended victim.
Marta Perry always tells a good story. This is book two of her Three Sister Series, set among the Pennsylvania Amish Community. A Christmas To Die For is an exciting blend of romance and suspense. Now I'm looking forward to book three.

I happened to read this particular book by Marta Perry, out of sequence, for her series on the "Three Sisters" in an Amish community. This is the last installment I read. I loved each of the books, and now have read them all. Like all good things, I hate for it to end. It is hard to find mysteries that are both uplifting and full of faith in todays market of sex and gore. Thank you, Marta (Martha) Perry.

4.0 out of 5 stars Book Two, August 24, 2011

After reading Book one: Hide in Plain Sight, I had to buy this one. It is just as good as the first one. Fast paced, likeable characters. I can identify with the main character because she is the peacemaker in the family. It was true to life how she had to deal with the past and the mistakes her parents made in order to face her future. I stayed interested the whole way through. I wish the ending would have had a few more closing points to round out the make-up. Have bought the third one to finish the series.

This is the second of Marta's trilogy on the Three Sisters Inn. It is a fitting sequel to "Hide In Plain Sight". Another novel that is very hard to put down. This second in the series is also fast moving and keeps your interest. And that is what novels are all about. She has done it once again with this one. I thorougly enjoyed "Hide in Plain Sight" and, if anything, this one is at least it's equal or possibly even a bit better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful mystery!!, June 28, 2011
I decided to review these together since it is a series. However, I believe it would be okay to read them separately or out of order. I believe you can understand more of the back story if you read them in order, but I think they could easily be read on their own also and still be enjoyable.

Back in high school, I remember a librarian taking me around the library trying to help me find books I was interested in. I really hated reading when I was younger. I just couldn't seem to find anything I liked. This librarian introduced me to mystery books and I finally found something I could read without wanting to put it down after a few pages.

I hadn't read any mystery books in years though and these books reminded me how much I enjoy mysteries. I really enjoyed these books because I also enjoy Christian Romance/Love Stories. I don't like the hard-core, I'm-in-the-bedroom-with-you type romances, but I really enjoy the more toned down, real life romance stories, which is what the Love Inspired selections of books is all about. This series is a great combination of the love story aspect along with mystery/suspense. I honestly did not want to put these books down, which is to say a lot for a book for me. Even though I really enjoy reading, there are few books that I really just want to keep reading and reading and reading until the end without breaks!

I also enjoyed this series because it didn't give too much away. I couldn't figure out the whole twist and/or bad person too soon in the story, which is also great for me. I don't like figuring out "who did it" in the second chapter of a book because then it's more likely I'll put the book down & not even finish it - unless it's like a Columbo movie! These books were all wonderful because they held my attention & didn't give too much away & were really page-turners for me!

I enjoyed this second book of a series of three. It developed the character of Rachel, who we met in the first book. It had some surprises, but was somewhat predictable. It is an easy, clean read with a virtuous lesson.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable Read, January 25, 2012
By

I discovered Marta Perry through a free Kindle book...in fact, the first book in this series.

A Christmas to Die For, is the 2nd book in the series, and follows Rachel, the middle sister. This book did not disappoint with the mystery surrounding Rachel's accident and the death of a neighbor 20 years ago. It is very quick read, and a touch of romance to go with the mystery.

The only disappointment (which is NOT a reflection of the author or amazon...since I received this book through a paperback swap) is that some of the pages were partially torn out of the book...about 5 to be exact, and right in the middle when the plot thickens and the mystery was starting to unravel. Again, this was no reflection of the author, story, or amazon (where I also post reviews).

Can't wait to read the third book in the Three Sisters Inn series.
