Classic Dino with a modern twist,
By Greg Van Beek "co-editor, BING magazine, publ... (West Bend, Wisconsin) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)

At first glance this may appear to be just another reissue of Dean's classic Christmas album. But there's a new contemporary feel to it, due in large part his being joined by Country music superstar Martina McBride in a brand new remix of "Baby It's Cold Outside"! Well done.

This is a lovely composite of Dean Martin's Christmas songs, utterly charming and completely enjoyable to listen to any time of year, Christmas or not.

Dynamic Dino,

Growing up with this LP and now available on CD. I could almost hear my parents singing in the background. What a wonderful Christmas CD this is to remember the past and make memories for the future.

Classic Christmas From Dino,

This CD is the second Christmas compilation released as "Christmas With Dino".
What sets this one apart is the inclusion of an electronic duet, pairing the late Dino's 1959 vocal on "Baby It's Cold Outside" with the singing of the very popular--and very much alive--Martina McBride. Arranged by Patrick Williams, the song brings a touch of the modern to all the classic sounds that follow it. There are two versions each of "White Christmas", Let It Snow" and "Winter Wonderland" recorded in 1959 on the Capitol label and in 1966 when Martin moved to Reprise records. The Capitol versions of the songs are rich with strings and all feature a deliberate delivery by Martin. The Reprise selections represent a time when a heavier beat and more casual sounding vocals punctuated Dino's music. No matter, because the two eras are seamlessly blended from track to track. As one might expect, the fun loving singer who never seemed to try too hard, breezes through many of these Christmas favorites with characteristic good humor. He even shoos the reindeer as "Jingle Bells" ends and gives Santa a German accent during his plea to "Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer". The only religious offering of the set is "Silent Night" which Martin interprets with the delicacy, care and respect it deserves. It may not matter to some, but there's also sharper and more attractive packaging this time around. The cover features a nice color photo of Dean behind a music stand. There's also a sly tie-in to the duet with Martina. Hint: take a look at the sheet music on the stand. "Christmas With Dino" is an enjoyable CD from start to finish and a worthy addition to your holiday music collection!

Christmas with Dino,
This review is from: Christmas With Dino (Audio CD)
This has been one of the most enjoyable Christmas CD's I have bought. He has a great voice and all ages can relate to the songs that are on it because most of us know them. It is a SUPER group of songs on one CD by a GREAT singer. This should be one of the most sought after Christmas CD's.

Dean Martin's baritone is famous for being rich and smooth and in this Christmas album, it's also fun. His duet with Martina McBride is one of the best duets I've ever heard. It's luscious and their voices overlap and follow each other in a beautiful dance. The rest of the album is enjoyable, although, it tends to sound country, for some reason. Being a big band, jazz, swing fan, I wasn't necessarily crazy about that.
The Bonus Alternate versions included aren't really all that different from the other tracks. But if you love Dino and Christmas songs, you can't go wrong with this one.

This recording starts off in high spirits as Martina McBride joins Dean for "Baby, It's Cold Outside" - you can just see Dean, urbane and relaxed, as he sweet talks his lady.
From there we move into classic Christmas music (no fillers or throwaways), all delivered with the warmth and mellow relaxation that are Dean Martin's trademarks. If you love Christmas music at its best, you'll love Christmas with Dino! |
