Smooth and soothing Christmas music. Light the fireplace.,

This review is from: Christmas With Eddy Arnold (Audio CD)
I just found this CD after having lost my LP back about 10 years ago. I couldn't be happier! This album was around from the late 50's to my early recollection. My father used to sing many of the songs from this and other Eddy Arnold music as far back as I can remember. But, the one I really missed was "C-H-R-I-S-T-M-A-S". I appreciate it even more now as an adult than I did as a child. This particular song has the meaning of Christmas tied up in one 2.28 minute message: C is for the Christ child, H for herald angels, R means our Redeemer, I means Israel, S is for the stars, T is for Three Wisemen, M is for the manger where He lay, A is for all He stands for, S means shepherds came.Even though I heard "Will Santa Come to Shanty Town" on the same LP, it never confused the issue for me. There was room for the plea of a poor child to ask if he would be remembered too on that wonderful day. I could identify with him. EA has another CD on which both of these songs can be found although it doesn't have just Christmas songs. It's called: "Eddy Arnold The Cattle Call". It has many of his older songs on it. Enjoy.

Wonderful Christmas Memories,
By Lisa Worthington (California United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Christmas With Eddy Arnold (Audio CD)
I finally found the CD version of Christmas with Eddy Arnold after three years of searching! Evidently, the CD is very rare. This was one of those Christmas records I grew up on and it brings back such good holiday memories of my mom who passed away in 1993. I'm very excited to have it among my Christmas CD collection. I think RCA/BMG should re-release this album on CD. I'm sure there are many more people out there who would love to have this CD to add to their Christmas memories too.

I was so excited when I found that this album has actually been made onto CD. We wore this album out when I was growing up and, like some of the other reviewers, our tape is not going to last. My sister and I have been looking for the CD for years!!! It is by far our favorite Christmas music EVER!!! Eddy Arnold's songs are so heart warming and our holidays are just not the same without them. I hope that Christmas with Eddy Arnold is re-released so we can share it with our children. PLEASE - I NEED THIS CD!!!!!!

Wow! Wonderful Old Styled Christmas/Countryish Album,

This really surprised me. Why? Because my usual liking for christmas albums are the easy-listening ones with an orchestra and 'crooner' singer and/or a chorus led album. There are only a very limited few that aren't in this easy-listening/crooner style that I like as much as this favorite style of mine. And this christmas album by EDDY ARNOLD is one of them. In fact, it is the 'one' in this style and so much so, I'm ranking it as an almost christmas 'classic/masterpeice' and almost as great as my favorites of all-time. The only weakness would be song #2, WILL SANTY COME TO SHANTY TOWN. While it offers a glimmer of hope/happiness, it also has a touch of sadness that would be better suited for a movie/TV special rather than a song (although most people like this song and I do too, it doesn't ruin the album or anything like that but isn't as strong as the others tracks, IMO, of course).
The style is old-styled country with christmas touches to it. A nice organ is present in some songs and the backing (mostly male) chorus works perfectly to create that old country/christmas sound that only BOBBY HELMS and one or two others could manage (to my liking anyway), though this is also different than BOBBY HELMS as I would say this is alot smoother. In fact, I even like this more than BOBBY HELM'S great christmas record from decades ago. And let's not leave out EDDY as his voice is countryish, but I can also find a strong 'crooner' influence as well (crooners being PERRY COMO, BING CROSBY, FRANK SINATRA, DEAN MARTIN, etc...). The sound on this cd of the album is pristine, very clear but still keeping to that old 1950's/1960's countryish/christmas style. This is a definite christmas classic (with the exception of that one song listed above) as every song is great including a nice new song called CHRISTMAS CAN'T BE FAR AWAY. Every song (with the exception of the first 2) are mostly/all popular christmas songs that everybody might know and EDDY gives them all a fantastic treatment, some that are easily up there with the best version which includes JINGLE BELL ROCK, IT CAME UPON A MIDNIGHT CLEAR, and UP ON THE HOUSETOP. Eddy's voice is so awesome and worth noting is the backing male chorus which is also fantastic in these songs as is the backing music. Again, this is one of those rare, non easy-listening/crooner christmas albums that I like almost as much as my favorite easy-listening/crooner christmas albums. It's pretty much a classic christmas record with a beautiful old-time christmas feel to it. Very, very recommended.

Christmas with Eddy Arnold,

This review is from: Christmas With Eddy Arnold (Audio CD)
I've been looking for this CD for over a year and I finally got it! A couple of years ago I started to collect the old christmas albums I grew up with. Most of these albums were from the late 50's and early 60's. I hoped to find them on CD so I could share them some day with my children. Last Christmas I was able to find all of these albums on CD except "Christmas with Eddy Arnold." This Christmas, my collection is complete. Eddy Arnold sings these Christmas Songs with a smooth, easy Country sound. Will Santy Come to Shanty Town, and Jolly Old St. Nicholas are my two favorites. If you grew up hearing this Christmas music, this CD will momentarily transport you back in time to all those Christmas memories.

Like most of the reviewers, this was among several Christmas records that we listened to when the season began just after Thanksgiving. We had music from R. Conniff, P. Faith, B. Kaempfert, A. Williams, D. Martin, A. Fiedler and more. However, my mother was particular fond of E. Arnold music and this album probably received the most air time. As she passed away a few years back, I have been collecting the holiday recordings that we listened to in CD form. Christmas was her favorite time of the year, and as I listen to the music that I have collected, it surely brings back the good memories my family had during the holiday's. This is the only recording I have yet to find and hope that someday we can see this in release so that all who are searching for it will be able to bring back their particular holiday memories with this music.

My mother had this record and I grew up listening to this Christmas album every holiday season. Now I'm looking for it on CD and it doesn't seem to be available. It brings back some many fond Christmas memories. I especially like the song "Christmas can't be far away." Eddy's mellow voice is so relaxing. I love it!
