Book Description

November 1, 1996
THE BOSS SAYS "BAH, HUMBUG."

Ever had a tall, dark and scrumptiously sexy boss? So desirable that you wish he'd be waiting under your Christmas tree on December 24, wearing nothing but a red ribbon around his neck? But so scroogelike that he's planning to cancel the company party, enforce the "no-dating co-workers" policy and spend the holidays shredding mistletoe?

Sounds just like Carrie Sargent's boss. So how did the woman who was one eggnog away from saying "I quit!" ever get Cash Cunningham to merrily say "I do!" at a wedding chapel on Christmas Eve?

…THE GROOM SAYS "I DO!"

Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

When the driver of the Mercedes that collides with hers turns out to be her prospective employer, Carrie Sargent knows she's lost the job before she even had it. And she's right?until a savvy headhunter persuades construction company owner Cash Cunningham to take a chance on the red-headed whirlwind who eventually turns his staid company?and his heart?upside down. Although the title is a stretch, the story itself is tightly written and features the simmering sexual tension and upbeat pace typical of many Desires. Despite a few inaccuracies, readers will find this enjoyable holiday reading. Eames (You're What?, Silhouette, 1996) lives in Michigan.

Review

Carrie Sargent's life seems to be on a downhill slide-- she's lost her job, her home and her fiancee. What she needs is a job to get her back on the right track. Unfortunately, the perfect job slips by her when a fender bender brings her a little too close to Cash Cunningham, president of Cunningham Construction. But when they run into each other again, under better circumstances, Carrie lands a job-- and a boss with the bluest eyes she's ever seen. Cash doesn't know if he's hired a human resources manager or a hurricane. With her curly carrot-colored hair and her never ending ideas for improving morale and his company, Cash feels like he's the newcomer in Cunningham Construction. One thing is for sure, Carrie is good for his company-- and she's good for him. But there's no way they can have a relationship and he can't lose the best thing that ever happened to his company. But his heart tells him he needs Carrie in his life and one way or another he'll think of some way for them to be together... if she doesn't beat him to it! Anne Eames has written a fun, light-hearted romance perfect for the holidays! However, Ms. Eames also deals with the issue of substance abuse and does an admirable job of not only bringing the problem to light but offering solutions. But it's the romance between Cash and Carrie (great names!) that will endear the readers to Ms. Eames. She has a promising future in romance as proven by her first two books. Christmas Elopement once again proves that Anne Eames will be entertaining readers for a long time to come!Anne Eames is a fresh new talent in contemporary romance! Christmas Elopement should be packaged with mistletoe... it's sure to inspire more than one Christmas romance! Heartwarming and romantic, just perfect for the holidays! Anne Eames is always fun to read!Kristina Wright -- Copyright © 1994-97 Literary Times, Inc. All rights reserved -- From Literary Times

5.0 out of 5 stars Anne Eames delivers a delightfully fast-paced read., August 30, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Christmas Elopement (Silhouette Desire, No 1042) (Paperback)
If there was ever a person to believe in the power of Friday the Thirteenth, Carrie Sargent is one of them. Bad hair, bad perm, no fiance, and no job. The day couldn't possibly get any worse.

But it does. On her way to a job interview at Cunningham Construction, Carrie runs into a Mercedes convertible. Okay, so now the day couldn't possibly get any worse.

But it does. Carrie is late for her interview, and she arrives to find the owner of the construction company is also the owner of the Mercedes she just ran into.

Cash Cunningham is set in his ways. He knows the difference between right and wrong (or so he believes), and knows exactly who should and shouldn't work at Cunningham Construction. It would be a cold day in you-know-where before he'd ever hire Carrie Sargent. Good references? Ha! Doesn't matter.

But fate -- if you could call it that -- steps in after Cash agrees to meet with "management placement professional" Dwayne Flutie. Dwayne has found the perfect employee for Cash -- which turns out to be Carrie. Cash knows she's the best person qualified for this job, so he hires her -- with reservations.

Cash learns to tolerate most of Carrie's "antics" -- with the exception of "Bring Your Pet To Work" day, employee assistance, and drug testing. No matter how hard Carrie tries, Cash refuses to change his mind -- until one of his most valued employees and friend is discovered to have a drinking problem. Cash needs to do something. Not only does Cash's friend need the EAP, but countless other employees as well.

In CHRISTMAS ELOPEMENT, Anne Eames delivers a delightfully fast-paced read with memorable characters who are bound and determined to fight the changes between them both professionally and personally. And you can't help but to find enjoyment as Cash and Carrie exchange presents with each other on Christmas Eve.

This book has found its home on my keeper shelf.

2.0 out of 5 stars Just skip to the end., December 7, 2002

Plot description is given on this book's Amazon[.com] page. I gave this book 2 stars for the first quarter of the story. After that--just read the ending. This guy has his own company, and doesn't realize he has a problem? He makes the rule about no company dating and has sex with his Human Resource Officer! Hello, what wrong with this picture. In this day, Cash, is setting up himself and his company for a great harassment lawsuit. I realize that we are supposed to just flow with the story, but it has to be somewhat believable.
