5.0 out of 5 stars All-Time Favorite Christmas Special

3.0 out of 5 stars VERY long!
I haven't had the chance to read this book yet, it is long and my 18 month old isn't very interested yet. Maybe next year!

5.0 out of 5 stars All-Time Favorite Christmas Special, November 30, 2007

This review is from: Christmas Eve On Sesame Street (Hardcover)
This special was taped shortly before the death of the Mr. Hooper character, before Cookie Monster and Oscar the Grouch were "toned down," and before the arrival of the obnoxious red intruder Elmo. It is classic, old-school Sesame Street, beautifully made and written with some very memorable original songs that my family knows by heart ("Keep Christmas With You," "I Hate Christmas," and the wonderful "I Believe in Miracles"). The script is sharp and entertaining for adults as well as kids.

The main storyline follows a distraught Big Bird, on a frantic mission to find out how fat Santa Claus can fit down chimneys. If he can't figure it out before Christmas Eve, then Santa won't come, is his childlike reasoning. (Gordon's kind intervention is one of my favorite Sesame Street moments ever.) Subplots include Ernie and Bert's innocent reenactment of "The Gift of the Magi," Cookie Monster's attempts to write Santa a letter, and Oscar's surliness brought on by the happiest season of the year.

In the early 80s, an audio-only version of this special was released on vinyl, with the addition of an "anonymous" narrator. (If you can find it, I leave it to you to figure out who he is!) My mom would play it while we decorated the tree or played with our toys Christmas morning.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Favorite Christmas Book, December 16, 2010
This review is from: Christmas Eve On Sesame Street (Hardcover)
I have Christmas on Sesame Street from when my 2 children were little. Sesame Street was a favorite TV program in our house. We love this book. We read it together every Christmas. I've ordered another one so each of my children have one now that they are grown up. I still like to read it every Christmas.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than expected, November 27, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Christmas Eve On Sesame Street (Hardcover)
I was very happy with this purchase. It was a used book that was as good as new. I never expected the quality for the small price. I needed it for a project, and when I was finished with it, I donated it to the local children's library, because they had no copy on their shelves. Thank you so much and I would order more from this vendor in the future.
