Overcome by Jeremy Camp

We Cry Out: The Worship Project

There’s evidence that everyone else feels otherwise—he has sold three million records, charted twenty-two No. 1 hits, GRAMMY-nominated and won several major Dove Awards—but Jeremy Camp is tired of himself. Not in any self-deprecating way, but in that positive spiritual sense to which we should all aspire. You can hear him working this out ... Read more in Amazon's Jeremy Camp Store

I especially love his own song on this album, God With Us.
"Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" ~ If you prefer the traditional approach to Christmas songs, this one does it well!

I am not overtly religious....just a Catholic boy at heart so I am reviewing this cd simply from a musical perspective. Camp's voice is perfect for a relaxed yet emotional take on some of my favorite classic Christmas songs. The music on this cd complements his unique voice perfectly. I think some people get scared away when a performer is labeled a "Christian" musician. Don't be closed-minded....give this cd a listen and you will be impressed....even if you are an atheist! :0)
BTW.....Merry Christmas!

I love Jeremy Camp's down to earth and rough around the edges voice. His music has been a favorite of mine.

Christmas: God With Us is Jeremy Camp's first full length Christmas album in his 10-year music career. It was released September 25th, 2012. I love this Christmas album, although I was surprised to find a mix of both secular and Christian Christmas songs on it. Most of the album has the Christian feel I would expect from Jeremy Camp, but Jingle Bell Rock, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas and Let It Snow are more secular. I believe that these songs gave the album a more rounded feel, but I didn't expect them.

Jingle Bell Rock is also the very first song and if you have your sound too loud, it will blast it out of your speakers because of the abrupt beginning. I especially love his own song on this album, God With Us. It has beautiful lyrics and I love the strings. My favorite though is O Come, O Come Emmanuel. I really love the arrangement on this. I also love the song Mary Did You Know With only 10 songs on the album it does feel like there should be more. I love the pretty cover picture and the fun picture on the back of Jeremy in an old car with a Christmas tree in the back. Overall this is a great Christmas album, especially for Jeremy Camp fans.

When I first saw that "Jingle Bell Rock" was the leading song on this album, I have to admit I was a bit turned off. I just ordered it because it was Jeremy Camp, and I didn't listen to any excerpts of any of the songs. I don't even think I looked at the song list. I saw THAT when the disc arrived. I was just in a Christmas music ordering frenzy on Amazon at the time, and it had popped up in the recommendations for me. Anyway, I am a Jesus-loving Christian, and I adore MANY a "serious" hymn and song about Christmas too, but I have to tell you what shocked me about myself when listening to this album.... "Jingle Bell Rock" is my FAVORITE song on it!!! It made me laugh and sing and dance around the room. I don't know. Maybe God works in mysterious ways, but I was filled with JOY!!! I do go through phases, though, so I might have different favorites from the album from time to time. I've just NEVER heard a better, happier version of "Jingle Bell Rock" before (that I can remember). Maybe I was in a particularly low place at the time, and God knew I needed some dance music. Ha! Overall, a fairly eclectic mix of Christmas songs, both "spiritual" and "secular" (or just maybe "traditional") as I remember it. Again, I have A LOT of Christmas music, so it's hard to keep it all straight. Be sure to listen to excerpts of the songs ahead of time to see if you will like it too!

Prime Cuts: Mary Did You Know, God With Us, Joy to the World

Christmas albums are dangerous affairs. Artists of some enduring success are expected to record a festive album somewhere down their career path. And fans just love it; they would ledge tightly to the opportunity to hear their favorite artist sing the yuletide carols. Since there is already a built-in audience, this gives license for lethargy where the artist would sing these traditional songs on auto-pilot. Jeremy Camp has not given in to such a temptation. Rather he has given these 9 traditional Christmas classics and 1 original his own spin. Known first and foremost as a worship leader who excels in Christian rock, Camp has topped the Christian charts with worship staples such as "Capture Me," `Give You Glory," "Walk By Faith" and "There Will be a Day." After 17 number one hits and 7 albums, "Christmas: God with Us" is Camp's first ever festive album. Rather than treating this project as a nod to traditionalism, he has made this record a rocking worship experience. However, there are three stumbling moments: first, secular tracks such as "Let It Snow," "Jungle Bell Rock" and "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" don't sit quite well with the worshipful approach he brings to the more God-centered pieces. Second, being a sublime writer himself, one is disappointed that there is only 1 original entry here. Third, with only 10 cuts and the album clocking in at a tad above the half hour mark, this certainly leaves more to be desired.

The cynosure of the album is obviously the new titular track "God With Us." Written by Brown Bannister, Ben Shive and Jeremy Camp, "God with Us" gets at the heart of the meaning of Christmas without any mealy-mouth doubletalk: God came through Jesus to save.
