This album quickly became my favorite of 2009 and will surely get lots of play in years to come. From the opening guitar riff to the last funky fade, it never disappointed my desire to hear honest, soulful, rootsy tunes with a Christmas vibe.Soulful? More than ANYTHING you'll find on the new releases rack. Danceable? Hell yeah! Try to sit still through track 2 Highlights for me include... Seriously? Every track. If I could give it a 6 out of 5, I would. The person who rated this record a 1 seems to not have listened. They complain simply about the marketing and price. Give me a break. It's a disservice to these awesome artists and the people who assembled this masterpiece. Have a funky funky Christmas!

Maybe you shouldn't make this your one and only Christmas soul album--that's what James Brown and the Stax/Atlantic collections are for--but if you collect this kind of material, these are awesome finds. And it's a great party record.

This disc features mostly obscure funk holiday songs with righteous rhythms and a Kringle-Fu attitude. It gets constant play throughout the season in my household. Just be aware that the Isaac Clarke track isn't actually on the CD (or listed on the jewel case--too bad because it supposedly was produced by the legendary Eddie Bo.) And the Captain Elmo track (which is on the jewel case) is actually Johnny Acey and the Esqire's rousing "Christmas Keeps on Coming," a great track, but not the rare calypso Strut promises us. I'm still awaiting an answer to my email to the label. Buy this anyway, but caveat emptor, y'all!

I love Christmas music but sometimes the radio plays the same songs repeatedly. I had never heard any of these songs before and had fun hearing more Christmas, and two New Year's, songs. I was excited to introduce these songs to other people. If I have a Christmas or New Years party, I will add some of these songs to the mix.

Bottomline...bad selections, unprofessional acts (some can't even sing), just a TERRIBLE CD. Order any Motown Christmas Compilations before you waste your money on this.

What gives? Why call it free and feature it on the free mp3 download page and then charge $5.00. Help me understand why this is not a case of 'bait & switch.'
