Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

For a special Christmas treat, open the three folding panels of the Christmas Keepsake to reveal 25 miniature books that double as ornaments. Each 24-page book is festively painted to hint at the story, carol, Bible excerpt, or poem within. Classic writers such as Robert Frost, the Brothers Grimm, Louisa May Alcott, Charles Dickens, and Edgar Allan Poe contribute to the warm, traditional mood of this giant compilation of tiny books. Much like an advent calendar, one snugly nestled volume per night should be read, and then hung from the Christmas tree with the gold ribbon loop. On Christmas day, read "The Greatest Gift of All," a book more than twice the size of the others, about baby Jesus born in Bethlehem. When the holiday is over, tuck each book back in its niche and pack it away for next year. Children will clamor for each day's new story, never realizing they're being introduced to some of the world's greatest classic authors. (Ages 3 to 6) --Emilie Coulter

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Tradition to Start with Young Children, November 29, 2000
By
jayec (NEW JERSEY USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Christmas Keepsake - A Treasury of Best-Loved Stories and More (Hardcover)
This is a great book. I bought it because it reminded me of an easter book, The Great Easter Egg Hunt. I bought that book a couple of years ago and started an Easter tradition.

Inside the big book are smaller books. I plan to start a Christmas tradition with my children of reading the individual books on the evenings preceding Christmas Eve. This is similar to what I do with the Easter book. I am really looking forward to it because my five year old and two year old had so much fun with the Easter book earlier this year.

5.0 out of 5 stars You can create a wonderful ritual!, December 7, 2000
This review is from: Christmas Keepsake - A Treasury of Best-Loved Stories and More (Hardcover)
Thanks to this keepsake with 25 little books, I created a wonderful ritual with my 3 years old daughter. I use it with an advent calender (which was also bought here, in Amazon Books). When she opens the "window" of the day, she owns the right of listening to "the story of the day" too. You must see her face when her little hands open the keepsake, looking foward to the story. And the best part: after all, we together put the green ilustrated book in the tree -- because it is also an ornament. And, then, Alice go to sleep very happy, dreaming of Santa Claus and the magic of the holidays. These moments can make a Christmas unforgetable -- for a mother and a daughter.
