5.0 out of 5 stars AN ABSOLUTELY GLORIOUS CHRISTMAS CD, November 30, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: A Christmas Legacy (Audio CD)
A CHRISTMAS LEGACY is an exceptional musical experience, featuring treasured Christmas music exquisitely arranged for choir and orchestra by renowned Canadian Conductor Howard Cable. The Timmins Concert Singers and the Timmins Symphony Orchestral Ensemble perform with energy, enthusiasm and exceptional musicianship throughout this recording.

I was very impressed with the expressive qualities and excellent diction displayed by the Timmins Concert Singers in this recording. The variety of music in this CD is wonderful; you get a little taste of rock n' roll (Jingle Bell Rock), of nostalgia (I'm Dreaming Of A White Christmas, The Christmas Song) and spirituality (Go Tell It On The Mountain, Cloche De Noel).

As well, the beautiful music of John Rutter is featured on this CD, highlighted by an exceptional performance of Christmas Lullaby by the Timmins Concert Singers and Timmins Symphony Orchestral Ensemble.

A "must-have" for Christmas!! Treat yourself...you won't be disappointed!

5.0 out of 5 stars THE BEST CHRISTMAS CD, December 9, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: A Christmas Legacy (Audio CD)
What a wonderful Christmas treat!! All of your favorite carols are included on this recording and brilliantly arranged by Canadian legend, Howard Cable. The Timmins Concert Singers and Timmins Symphony Orchestral Ensemble are in top form. The voices of the singers are filled with such joy and enthusiasm and, at the same time, exhibit a high degree of musical discipline.

I will play this CD all year around....I already play their first CD "I Remember December"...with Patricia O'Callaghan and Kevin Closs, all through the calendar year.

Bravo!!!

What a beautiful CD!! I love the arrangements by Howard Cable! There is so much variety and the Timmins Concert Singers sing with enthusiasm and outstanding musicianship. All the Christmas favorites are there.....the Christmas Song, White Christmas, Silver Bells, Jingle Bell Rock, Rudolph & Frosty beautifully intermingled with traditional carols such as Go Tell It On The Mountain, The Huron Carol, The Little Drummer Boy....the list goes on and on.

There is a beautiful rendition of Christmas Lullaby by John Rutter...absolutely gorgeous.

Go and purchase this CD and have yourself a truly merry Christmas. Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great follow-up to I remember December, December 17, 2003
This review is from: A Christmas Legacy (Audio CD)
The Timmins concert singers (originally the Timmins youth singers), founded by Rosanne Simunovic, are a choir in which (at the time of this recording) there were about five female singers to every two male singers. This is their second Christmas album. It is somewhat from its predecessor in that it was recorded live in concert (November 1999) and did not feature any guest soloists (though there is a guest conductor - Howard Cable, a renowned figure on the Canadian music scene). It is therefore a less varied but more cohesive collection than I remember December.

The live aspects of the recording have been mostly edited out, though you can still hear the clapping at the end of the tracks. All the banter with the audience has been cut out except for a little towards the end of the final track.

The songs are a great mix of old chestnuts and original material. Classical composer John Rutter wrote two songs (Christmas lullaby and Star carol). Noel nouvelet, though apparently a traditional song, is new to me. It is great that old songs that have faded into obscurity are revived occasionally. Here within these walls is also new to me. Ding dong merrily on high (a great traditional Christmas song) will be familiar to Brits though I don't think it's popular in America. Dashing through the snow is really a re-arranged version of Jingle bells. There are three medleys that include lots of familiar standards. New world carols focuses on the religious aspect while the other two medleys focus on the festive aspects - snow, Santa, reindeer, bells and having a good time.

This is a brilliant choral Christmas album that you could use as party music or play during those quiet moments.
