Holiday gem that should absolutely be out on DVD,
By
This review is from: The Christmas List (DVD)
Aside from the fact that this is a Christmas movie, there's universal appeal in the power to effect change in our lives as Melody Parris did in this film. Luckily, I recorded this movie a few years ago (and re-record it every year so that I always have a fresh copy) because I watch it all year round whenever I need some inspiration on the "power of positive thinking" (or positive listing in this case). In a nutshell, Melody Parris is a perfume counter salesperson at a big department store. She sells perfume as an extension of a person's soul and she can name any perfume blindfolded. They call her the nose, in fact. The passion by which she conducts herself at the perfume counter extends into the other areas of her life. At the urging of a co-worker, Melody writes a heartfelt yet way out Christmas list that mysteriously begins to manifest itself item by item after finding its way into Santa's mailbox. That, combined with one kind gesture to a young boy, unleashes uncontrollable change in her life. She ends up on a rollercoaster of life changing events (sometimes bad-seeming at first) but ultimately, she triumphs over every obstacle in the way of true happiness in her life. Her co-worker tells her that by writing the list, she gave herself permission to go for it and make change happen for herself. There's a lot to be said for that.
It's a real shame that this little gem is not out on DVD. I'm not quite sure what the criteria is for releasing made-for-tv movies on DVD but this one certainly deserves to be released as such. P.S. Some good performances by Marla Maples and Stella Stevens.

Great Modern Christmas Movie!,

I was sure to catch this little gem this year! Lovely, fun, family movie for the holidays. They don't make many modern holiday movies which are really good - this is one of them. Can't understand why it isn't out on DVD?!? Many seem to enjoy it and it is just so much fun!

Want the DVD? Contact Disney/Buena Vista!,

I heartily agree with all the positive reviews here and would love to purchase the DVD. According to the message board on imdb.com, the Disney Channel bought the rights to this film from the Merv Griffin Company. Perhaps, if enough people contacted them to express an interest in "The Christmas List," they'd consider releasing it on DVD (Lord knows, they've got the money/resources to do so!). I went to http://disneydvd.disney.go.com/, scrolled to the bottom of the page, clicked on "Questions," and asked them about it. Or, if you're REALLY interested (as I am), you can call them:
In the United States: 1-800-723-4763 In Canada 1-888-877-2843 It would certainly be nice to be able to purchase this DVD through Amazon.com, instead of just read great reviews about the movie. We live in hope!

Christmas List is on my Christmas list!,

I love this movie and would watch it on Fox Family (now ABC Family) when it would come out. I looked on the ABC Family website and "The Christmas List" will air on ABC Family, November 23rd, 2007 at 6 pm Eastern Time. Mimi Rogers does a great job portraying Melody Parris, the "perfume lady", who has come to settle for less in her life, or so she thinks, until her Christmas list, unwillingly sent to Santa, changes all of that! This is a great movie to watch for the holiday season, complete with warm fuzzy feelings and a cozy happy ending. Just what I like at Christmas time. Please get this out on DVD somebody. Whomever owns the rights to the movie, you are losing money not having this movie out on DVD. I know, maybe we should all put it on our Christmas list and mail it to Santa, maybe he will get it out there!

I also watch it all year. it is such an inspireing story.we contacted disney and there is no release date planned. so if you want this DVD. BUG DISNEY.

I can relate to Melody Parris who worked behind a perfume counter. She had the nose. She would ask her customers their favorite flower or their favorite time of the day and select the perfect perfume for them. I agree her boyfriend was a jerk, he couldn't make a commitment but Danny Skyler and Mimi Rogers were the stars in this movie. Danny watched Melody select a perfume for a customer and asked her to help select one for his mother. I won't give away what happened next. There is no suggestive dialogue, language, violence or sex scenes. It is a family oriented movie. If the studio will make this movie available I will purchase two, one for myself and one for my daughter.

I don't have a lot new to say that previous viewers haven't already stated.
Just that this is one of my very favorite Christmas movies! Fun, inspirational, warm and feel good! Everything you could want a Christmas movie to be. Great all year round and I join the others who would look forward to having this great movie released to DVD.

Great Christmas Movie,

I love this movie and try to watch it every Christmas season. It is a shame that it is only shown once during the season. I have taped it and watch it a lot during the year. I have even gotten my husband and children interested in it. It is a very heart warming, positive thinking movie that we need to see more of on television. I am looking forward to it coming out on DVD because I will BUY IT.

Every year my daughter (now 23 yrs. old) wait for this movie to kick off our holiday season. We have watched it together every year since it came out. It reminds us to always have hope. Life can change for the better in an instant.
