This New Age Collection Was Disappointing for Me,
This review is from: Christmas Miracles: Inspirational Stories of True Holiday Magic (Paperback)
I was disappointed after my recent purchase of this book. I read the first few stories which were heartwarming, but then the stories started to change to be more farout and there were a couple of submissions from psychics. The stories are not well documented and some of the stories leave you wondering if they are actually true. I'll admit the thought, "Is this for real?" passed through my mind on more than one occasion. It appears to be a Christian book at first glance, but it is really New Age (big time). Just wanted to let you know so if you have similar beliefs to myself, that you don't have the same uncomfortable experience that I did. There is a new Chicken Soup for the Soul Christmas book for Kids which I found to be much superior. It gives you the heartwarming feeling without the weirdie stuff!

Very "New Age" and Very Depressing!!,
By ReadingFrodo (NW Chicago Suburbs) - See all my reviews

As another reviewer noted, this is a very "new age" book with some superficial stabs at a Christmas tie-in. However, this Christmas is not about the birth of Christ -- it's just a collectin of cosmic energy, cosmic love,angelic-messenger, go-toward-the-light kind of stories that happen to occur in mid- to late-December. For those who appreciate these types of stories, nearly all of the tales would be equally valid in mid-June or early September.
The collection features many "visitations" from dead people (especially children who died at a pathetically young age and in dreary and/or tragic circumstances!) plus a few "out-of-the-body" experiences. The final story features an extended description of the Christmas Day death of one of the author's young son. Of course, he appears (a Christmas miracle) to assure her that life is wonderful "on the other side." Overall, the book left me with an oppressive sense of doom and foreboding as I made the mistake of reading it while my teenagers were out on a foggy, winter night! I certainly can't imagine sharing any of these stores with kids--especially not at Christmas!

Wonderful, inspirational and heart-warming stories,

Too often we are busy "making a living" while spending precious little time in "making a life." Brad and Sherry Hansen-Steiger, in their new book, "Christmas Miracles" show us that there is much more to life than appears to be. I found myself almost on the brink of tears as I read story after story. I was gently reminded to look at the important things in my life and to always know that there is a purpose and a plan for each of us. My thanks to the authors for such a wonderful volume. I will keep it in my library as one of my most precious books.

The book contains very short stories each describing a Christmas miracle. I recommend reading a book like this before Christmas. It is not too heavy or religious, but will put you in the mood for the real meaning of the holiday season. I read one like this every year.

Christmas Miracles is truly inspirational for any time!!!,

CHRISTMAS MIRACLES: Inspirational Stories of True Holiday Magic... is an absolutely lovely book!!! ...filled with inspiring and heartwarming storys that lifts its reader into the atmosphere of what a miracle is.... and, that miracles really do occur. Some of the miracles are dramatic...but then...isn't that what makes them miracles!!! ... I especially liked it because with all the world crisis and bigotry that abounds ...it is so refreshing to read of Miracles in actual peoples lives...and miracles that many can relate to...told in the wonderfully warm style of writing which is the hallmark of Brad Steiger and Sherry Hanson Steiger. So, If you're looking for inspiration and want to add a bit of special holiday magic with the gift of a book to yourself or someone else...I really liked Christmas Miracles!!!...and would recommend it as an excellent gift...

A Book to be Enjoyed Any Time of the Year,
By Katie "book worm" (PA , USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Christmas Miracles: Inspirational Stories of True Holiday Magic (Paperback)
Although the title of this book is "Christmas Miracles", it's truly a book that can be read & enjoyed any time of the year. It's chock full of beautiful, inspirational short-stories of various real-life miracles that occurred during the Christmas Season.
Each of the stories is relatively short, so this is one of those books that you can read a little at a time - perfect for those who don't have a lot of reading time. I also liked that "Christmas Miracles" includes miracles that happened to people of all different faiths & spiritual movements. Overall, I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is inspired by miracles - but make sure you have a box of tissues handy (smile)... |
