5.0 out of 5 stars best Mathis Holiday set to get
This is easily the best Johnny Mathis Christmas collection to get. Why? It contains tracks from all of Johnny's previous Christmas outings in 1958, 1963, 1969, and 1986, personally selected by Johnny, and seconded by me as the being the best of those albums.

3.0 out of 5 stars A Mathis Xmas
While packing up a bunch of holiday albums I'd recently inherited, I came across this Johnny Mathis compilation (culled from four previous releases dating from 1958 to 1986). Thats a lot of years and serves as reminder of just how lengthy a career he has enjoyed. I mean holiday records by major pop stars have always been pretty much de rigueur, especially in the...

5.0 out of 5 stars best Mathis Holiday set to get, November 23, 2001
This review is from: The Christmas Music Of Johnny Mathis: A Personal Collection (Audio CD)
This is easily the best Johnny Mathis Christmas collection to get. Why? It contains tracks from all of Johnny's previous Christmas outings in 1958, 1963, 1969, and 1986, personally selected by Johnny, and seconded by me as the being the best of those albums.
Mathis' Silver Bells, Sleigh Ride, and Winter Wonderland - from his 1958 album - rank as the definitive versions, as does his 1963 version of A Marshmallow World (Mathis sounds perpetually festive here, whereas Dean Martin merely sounds tipsy on his also well-known version). We Need A Little Christmas, from Mathis' 1986 album, benefits from his added life experience. The words would not have resonated so much feeling had he done it twenty-five years earlier.
The one major omission: Mathis' 1971 recording of Carol Of The Bells. It is available on Rhino's excellent two-disc Home For Christmas.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best of Mathis' chritsmas collections, December 16, 1999
By
This review is from: The Christmas Music Of Johnny Mathis: A Personal Collection (Audio CD)
The album takes cuts from Mathis' three other christmas albums and digitally remasters them. Thus the sound quality is excellent. Mathis is in absolute best voice and the selections billed as his favorite Christmas hits, are sure to be favorites of yours as well. It's hard to pick what songs his does better than any other on the album as he does a great job on them all. However I must single out It's Beginning to look alot like Christmas and It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year as the best, these might even be classified as his two signature Christmas songs. This album is sure to please everyone and I highly recommend it.

This is a fabulous CD. It puts you right in the holiday mood. I think the selection of songs is far better than his other Christmas CD's. Needless to say, his voice is superb. This is a must have!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Fine Christmas Album, August 27, 2004
This review is from: The Christmas Music Of Johnny Mathis: A Personal Collection (Audio CD)
This is one of the best Christmas collections I have ever heard! The selection of songs on this album covers the best that Johnny recorded in his many years. "Silver Bells", "Sleigh Ride", "Let It Snow", "Marshmellow World", and almost every other song is a winner! However, I am somewhat dissapointed that his version of "The Christmas Song" is not included, but don't not buy this CD. You will love it!

5.0 out of 5 stars If You Need Only 1 Christmas Album by Johnny-THIS IS IT!, November 28, 2001

If I could, I would rate this 10 stars-that's how beautiful this album is. No Christmas music collection is complete without at least one of Johnny Mathis' holiday albums-and as I already mentioned; if you only require ONE cd-this is the one to get-so come on, what are you waiting for-send for it NOW! I guarantee this will get played alongside other traditional artists like Nat King Cole, Perry Como, Andy Williams, Frank Sinatra & of course, Bing Crosby. All 6 are, in my not so humble opinion, the true Kings of Christmas music. Very highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Home for Christmas, October 26, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: The Christmas Music Of Johnny Mathis: A Personal Collection (Audio CD)
My mom used to listen to this exact music on 8-track. I still remember the point where the tape would fade out to flip to the other side. When I moved away for my first Christmas, this was the first Christmas CD I bought. It always reminds me of home and my mom at Christmas time. Johnny Mathis has the perfect singing voice for these beautiful and traditional songs. I highly recommend this CD. It will quickly become a Christmas treasure in anyone's home.

4.0 out of 5 stars Christmas with Johnny Mathis., October 31, 2005
This review is from: The Christmas Music Of Johnny Mathis: A Personal Collection (Audio CD)
Johnny Mathis is one of the most nicest, kindest singers who is a gentleman. He attended the funeral of former President of the United States, Ronald Reagan.
You may have heard Johnny Mathis sing "I Get Misty" or have heard his tune, "Chances Are" in the film, "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" (1977/1980)
Did you know Johnny Mathis appeared in the film, A Certain Smile (1958)?
It's only natural Johnny Mathis should do a Christmas album as he releases the spirit of joy with every tune he sings. Each song has been personally selected by Johnny Mathis as his favorite and therefore have been digitally remastered for this personal collection for you.
From 1958: "Silent Night, Holy Night",Silver Bells, Winter Wonderland, Sleigh Ride, White Christmas.
From 1969: Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas, The Little Drummer Boy, Santa Claus Is Coming To Town.
From 196: Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!, "A Marshmallow World".
From 1986: It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas", The Christmas Waltz, We Need A Little Christmas, It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year.
All 14 tunes are on one CD disc and inside the little booklet is a personal message from Johnny Mathis to wish you "Happy Holidays".
So decorate your Christmas tree, warm your popcorn and pumpkin pie, make yourself some Hot Fruit Toddy and enjoy the snow outside as you listen to Johnny Mathis.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heavenly music, November 30, 2003

This review is from: The Christmas Music Of Johnny Mathis: A Personal Collection (Audio CD)
I wanted a Christmas CD by Johnny Mathis because I remembered his wonderful voice singing songs such as "Chances Are" and "Feelings". I found this CD and I was not disappointed. His voice is reverent on the religious songs, fun on the holiday songs, but always deeply feeling and warm. There's something about the way he sings that touches me where I live. I found the audio quality to be very acceptable. Highly recommended.

This cd was produced as a "completer" for his boxed set. My only complaint is the mastering on this disc is really bad. It clames to have been restored and what not, but the levels are much lower than the original cd issues. The song selection is great, the fact they included tracks from his long out of print Mercury holiday album makes this disc worth owning, just turn up the volume a little.
