Excellent CD!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Christmas At Our House (Audio CD)
When this recording was first issued in 1984, it's a shame that it never got the recognition it rightly deserved, being largely overshadowed by Kenny Rogers & Dolly Parton's "Once Upon a Christmas" album. Nonetheless, this CD features song of the most heartfelt songs sung by Barbara yet. There's the cheery "Christmas at Our House", the bluesy "Santa, Bring My Baby Home", my favourite: "It Must Have Been the Mistletoe", the poignant "Born to Die", to the sacred "Christmas Story", which closes the album and reminds us all what the season is truly about. I highly recommend adding this title to your holiday collection, along with CD's from The Carpenters, Anne Murray, and Kenny Rogers among others. Kudos to Barbara for such a timeless album.

The Ultimate Christmas Album from the Ultimate Entertainer!,

This review is from: Christmas At Our House (Audio CD)
From beginning to end, this Christmas album is a winner! The opening title track is a beautiful portrait of what you would imagine Christmas at the Mandrell house to be!Next, it goes into her terrific rendition of "Winter Wonderland", complete with sleigh bells! Then on the seldom covered "This Time Of The Year", this song is perfectly suited for Barbara! The next track, "Santa Bring My Baby Home" is home territory for Barbara - straight ahead blues! She nails it perfectly! "One Night A Year" is another music genre Barbara is very at home with - gospel music! She emotes a lot of passion in this wonderful gem! In my opinion, her version of "I'll Be Home For Christmas" is the best out there! "It Must Have Been The Mistletoe (Our First Christmas)" is probably Barbara's most well-known Christmas song due to an abundance of play on radio and in shopping malls during the holiday season. She truly made this track her very own. On "From Our House To Yours", she is joined by sisters, Louise and Irlene, on harmony vocals to deliver a sweet, Hallmark moment to Mandrell fans everywhere! The next track is, for me, the centerpiece of the entire album. "Born To Die" is beautiful lyrically, melodically and in Barbara's warm delivery! It should remind us of the true meaning of the holiday season. The closing track is a 7:28 medley of Christmas carols telling of the birth of Christ via songs "O Little Town Of Bethlehem", "Away In A Manger", "What Child Is This", "The First Noel", "We Three Kings", "O Come All Ye Faithful", "Hark The Herald Angels Sing", "Silent Night" and "O Holy Night". Barbara did this magnificent medley in one take - probably not an easy task given all the lush arrangements and the power vocals she produces on some of these hymns. All in all, if you don't have this in your collection, you are truly missing out on one of the best Christmas collections by any artist ever!

Christmas Tradition,

I was so excited to find this on CD! I have worn out my record from years and years of playing it. Even my 6 year old knows the words to "It Must Have Been The Mistletoe". To me, my Christmas season can't officially start until I play this and Elvis's Christmas album.

This has been the number one favorite Christmas album of our family since we first bought it in 1984. We've worn out several copies and now our grown children are adding it to their collection.

When I first heard this album back in 1984-I was overwhelmed even at 14 yrs old at the amazing vocals of Barbara Mandrell. I grew up listening to Barbara's music. Of all the Christmas music out this is my favorite. I know every song by heart and love to listen to it year round. Have to admit that my most favorite song(s) is without a doubt a tie-"One Night a Year" and "Born To Die". No one else could have sang these songs like Barbara. THIS IS A MUST HAVE

The songs on this album are by far the greatest Christmas songs ever recorded! Barbara sings them like no one else can!!!The true meaning of Christmas will run through your veins while you listen to this album! I play this c.d. hour after hour! I keep it out during the year to listen to for a quick dose of childhood memories. If you get one album this year, make it Christmas at Our House!

Christmas is here!!,

For the past 10 years my son has woke up on the day after Thanksgiving to the sounds of Barbara Mandrell's Christmas at Our House. If you ask him he will tell you it's tradition and the holiday season can't start without Mom playing that CD. That's the day we start decorating and the whole mood of the season comes from this wonderful music. We also have a 5 and 7 year old who know all the words and request songs from this CD that they love to sing. I recommend this to all families. It is a wonderful way to warm your heart.

By A Customer
This review is from: Christmas At Our House (Audio CD)
I enjoy this ablum so much. It is a mixture of seasonal tunes along with moving Christian lyrics. "Born to Die" is the true meaning of the season. Ms. Mandrell performs this entire album with love and joy in her voice. You will not only want this for your holiday listening pleasure, but for the whole year through!

I bought this CD for one song in particular, "Born To Die". This is a wonderful declaration of the reason for the season. Christmas releases have a somewhat limited appeal because of the "seasonal nature", but you can actually listen to this one all year 'round and have a great time. Barbara Mandrell is one of the most talented female artists ever and she's never sounded better. This one is a nice addition to your Christmas Music!
