5.0 out of 5 stars Best Ever Offbeat Christmas Compilation!
In the ten years I've owned this CD I've never found one to touch it. If the only unique track on it was "Do You Hear What I Hear/You Really Got Me" it would be worth buying -- but it doesn't stop there. Even the goofy little interpolations (the Old Philosopher and various old radio commercials) are tremendous. Get it and don't ever lend it to anyone (I almost...

3.0 out of 5 stars Purchase songs individually that you like
I bought this for my husband who likes non mainstream Christmas music. We both listened to it together. His comments were "How much did you pay for this?" "Maybe next time just buy songs individually that you have previewed". We both noticed the volume changing periodically while listening. Also the sound quality was pretty poor. This really does sound like a mix tape, as...

I picked up this CD on a whim way back when. To my delight, it has become a favorite. It's quirky and strange, with just enough "Christmasy" material to make it something that I want to listen to over and over. I had never heard several of the songs before, but now I've got a batch of new favorites! Even my partner, who isn't particularly a Christmas kind of guy, enjoys this CD and looks forward to hearing it every year. Hooray for something different and fun!

As a collector of unusual music, this one ranks as one of the best collages of Christmas music. From beatnik bop to zydeco, blues and flat out comedy, Christmas Party with Eddie G. has some excellent nuggets. If you like raising a few eyebrows, this one will do it. Find it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Unusual songs with a great sound, November 5, 2009
This review is from: Christmas Party With Eddie G. (Audio CD)
I picked up this CD in the 90s on a hunch. I was looking for something unusual. Boy does this CD fit that description, but in a good way. The three songs that stand out to me are Do You Hear What I Hear/You Really Got Me, Donde Esta Santa Claus and What Will Santa Claus Say, the latter by Louis Prima. The first song mentioned is reason enough to get this CD. A great selection of unusual music that goes well together. The comedy bits are good too. If you're a fan of Spike Jones, Stan Freberg and Bob Rivers, you'll like this CD. I remembered I have it when I saw it here on the amazon.com site. It's somewhere in my house, I gotta dig it out and give it a spin this holiday season.

4.0 out of 5 stars Now available on CD., December 16, 2005

On this CD, Christmas music collector Eddie Gorodetsky compiles some of his favorite rare Christmas records. There are a lot of great songs here, plus unlisted Christmas radio spots before some of the songs. Also, there are fake "outtakes" from a Three Stooges Christmas recording session, where they attempt to record "The 12 Days of Christmas" (hilarious!). But the main reason to get this CD is for the rare songs, most of which are great. Styles represented here include blues, novelty, lounge, swing, R&B, beatnik, rock, soul, cajun, country and others. Recommended to fans of Christmas music.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best Christmas CD on the planet!, November 25, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Christmas Party With Eddie G. (Audio CD)
I didn't quite know what to expect from this cd when I first got it, but it has become my all-time holiday favorite! It runs through just about every musical genre, and includes great drops...like the Three Stooges (not the real Howards) trying to record a Christmas message, which are worth the purchase price alone. I've been a collector of obscure Christmas stuff for years, and I've decided that this is a must for any collection!

5.0 out of 5 stars My New Favorite..., December 4, 2001

I agree with all of the other reviewers...this is one of the best Chrismas compilations ever assembled. I especially like the Augie Rios chesnut, "Donde Esta Santa Claus" juxtaposed against the Kinks-esque version of "Do You Hear What I Hear." Pure genius. The Louie Prima number is a jewel and the "Cool Yule" poem is, well, cool. All in all, an outstanding collection. I'd buy a follow up CD without hesitation if one were available....Common Eddie!

This cd is one of the greatest Christmas albums ever.It ranks up there with the Phil Spector and Beach Boys Christmas albums.A compilation that mixes Foghat,Louis Prima, and George Jones?Well it all works, not to mention the fact that it contains the classic "Christmas Wish" by NRBQ.I don't know if this cd is still in print, but if you can find it,BUY IT!

Simply the best. I got tired of waiting for Volume II and started making my own for friends and family (particularly for my Dad, Eddie H., who always loved this one).
