5.0 out of 5 stars Christmas Music Must Have, November 30, 2011
By
This review is from: Christmas Portrait (Audio CD)
This is the first Christmas album I bought when it was released in 1978 and it really took my listening pleasure at once. The melodic voice of Karen Carpenter really soars in this album as though an angel has descended upon us. This album covers favourite Christmas carols and seasonal songs. It starts of with Richard performing O Come, O come Immanuel(acapella style) and we are introduced to a medley of songs that make ups the overture played by the orchestra with Peter Knight at the helm. We then hear Karen voice coming in with 'The Christmas Waltz' which starts the album proper. We are treated to an array of beautiful and timeless songs for the season and the arrangements are truly Carpenters style with the added help from Peter Knight resulting in a lush and pretty sounds. Just right for the Yuletide season. The original composition for the album is 'Merry Christmas,Darling' and is penned by Richard with words by Frank Poole, which has become a Carpenters classic and associated with Christmas time. In years to come it will become an American standard. The album closes with an ethereal version of 'Ave Maria' by Karen and it is lovely. This album is indeed a treasure to keep and it will endure the test of time and a must have Christmas album. As for the Carpenters fan, it is a must to play it to usher in the Yuletide season. A perfect album for the young at heart and the hopeless romantics, (like me) and it's the best album for CHRISTMAS! ENJOY!
