5.0 out of 5 stars Very nice, either as a book or for use as Christmas postcards
Full disclosure: I usually put out a newsletter and do all the card buying, addressing, signing, envelope licking, et cetera, for our Christmas cards ever year, and after spending hours doing all that last year, I decided enough was enough and to go with Christmas postcards in 2010.

3.0 out of 5 stars High quality but can't mail thru the USPS!
These postcards are of high quality and design. They arrived in perfect condition. Like some of the other reviewers stated, they can be a bit difficult to detach from the booklet itself. The main reason I had gotten these was because I wanted to save on postage this year and mail out postcards instead of actual cards. I had read in another review that someone else had...

Full disclosure: I usually put out a newsletter and do all the card buying, addressing, signing, envelope licking, et cetera, for our Christmas cards ever year, and after spending hours doing all that last year, I decided enough was enough and to go with Christmas postcards in 2010.

With that in mind, I bought this book intending to detach the reprint Christmas postcards to send out in December. I like the Victorian theme, which seems pretty unique these days, and am looking forward to NOT tasting envelope glue.

As a book, this is a nice one for the corner of your coffee table, although you're limited to November and December unless you're okay with having Christmas-themed stuff on display in April or August. The cards are a very nice cross-section of reprints of actual Christmas postcards from 1890-1930.

If you're thinking of sending out replica Christmas postcards this winter, I'd highly recommend this book. Dover puts out a couple of similar books as well, but although they're usually a little cheaper to buy, the paper stock is thinner, you get only 24 cards as opposed to the 30 this book has, and you'll be dealing with perforated edges once you pull them out of the Dover book. Spend a little more and get this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars From the Publisher, October 25, 2005
This review is from: Christmas Postcards: Victorian Designs (Paperback)
"The period between 1880 and the First World War was the great era of the picture postcard. Inexpensive postal rates and high-quality, high-speed printing methods encouraged the growth of this craze, which swept the world and brought countless thousands of postcards into existence. Christmas was naturally a popular postcard subject, and here we reproduce thirty very different and interesting antique postcards from our large collection."--Laughing Elephant

3.0 out of 5 stars High quality but can't mail thru the USPS!, November 30, 2011

These postcards are of high quality and design. They arrived in perfect condition. Like some of the other reviewers stated, they can be a bit difficult to detach from the booklet itself. The main reason I had gotten these was because I wanted to save on postage this year and mail out postcards instead of actual cards. I had read in another review that someone else had done the same (the review was written in 2010). Unfortunately, when I tried to mail them out today, the USPS said that they were too big. The max size allowed by the USPS is 4 1/4" X 6" (I verified this online after the postmaster had denied me). I probably should've checked on the USPS website before I bought these. Maybe the shipping rules changed from 2010 to 2011. I don't know. But for those of you who are looking to use these postcards as I had intended, don't buy these. If you're looking for something to use as a craft or scrapbooking material, then these would work very nicely. I wish they had put a disclaimer for cutomers to check with their local postal service on size. For that reason, I am only giving this product 3 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cheery, Cozy, Charming!, January 12, 2011

These 30 oversized Christmas postcards come in a glossy, colorful booklet. They are easy to remove: bend the card at the left edge along the scored line, then tear loose slowly. These are replicas of actual antique, Victorian-era cards with all of the charm, cheer, and humor. In the front of booklet is a brief history of the postcard.
The cards measure 6-1/2 x 5". There is plenty of room for writing on the back. The back of card has an antique motif and gives the name of the artist if known, which I appreciate.
Each card is unique. Some have charming poems. I like to receive Christmas postcards because I like to display them by taping them up around doorways, etc.
The artwork is truly beautiful. As an artist, I look for unique, high-quality artwork. These cards are heirloom quality. I highly recommend them.

Why send boring Christmas cards when you can revisit Christmas past with vintage postcard designs. There is enough variety to fit every personality. You save money on cards and stamps without looking cheap (though chic!). Excellent buy. I hope they come out with a different version for next year so I can do this again!

These postcards look great. I mean they are fantastic in terms of the image that is contained on each postcard. However, they are somewhat difficult to remove from the spine of packaging, so out of the thirty postcards you will loose about five percent with significant damage to the overall card image. This will make sending them to lover ones over the holiday very difficult. Anyway, unless you can deal with that many being damaged, these are for you. Get them and enjoy!!!!!
