Greg Wilcox has everything he wants - except Molly Anders. To get her, he will do anything, including promise an old-fashioned Christmas with Sarah, his five-year-old daughter. Will that be enough to get all of them what they really want Santa to bring - a family?

About the Author

During the weekday Janet is a mild-mannered software engineer who writes code and design documents. At night and on weekends she turns to the creation of offbeat stories about imaginary pasts, presents, and futures. But no matter when or where the story happens, there will always be some adventure, some humor, and meaning to the tale. For Cerridwen she's writing a new line of parafolk tales about modern day vampires, called nightwalkers, along with psychics and shapeshifters of all kinds. --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enjoy the Aura of Christmas, September 20, 2006
This review is from: A Christmas with Sarah (Paperback)
Reviewed by Kelli Glesige for Reader Views (9/06)

Five-year old Sarah has never had the pleasure of a Christmas tree or decorations at Christmas time in her home, for the holiday brings agonizing memories to Sarah's daddy, Greg. When Sarah was only two years old, her mother passed away on Christmas Eve. Even more painful is the fact that Sarah's mother was a successful ballerina and performed in the annual ballet, The Nutcracker. The traditional performance serves as a distressing memory of a great loss.

Greg now feels guilty for having worked so much and for not being there for his family, but nothing he could have done would have saved his wife's life. Guilt-ridden and wealthy, Greg quits his job to focus on raising Sarah and giving her the love and attention a young daughter needs.

Molly is an artist, but husband Adam tells her art will not bring a reliable and predictable paycheck. In addition, he tells Molly her art really is not that good. Adam wants to be a musician and desires Molly to be the one, with the steady paycheck, so he can fulfill his dream. Obviously not the person she thought he was when they wed, the marriage soon crumbles, and Adam walks out on Molly on Christmas Eve. Molly moves far away and takes a waitress job at the Redwood Diner in Big Sur.

A weekend getaway for Greg and Sarah finds them stopping at the Redwood Diner and meeting the young and lovely waitress, Molly. Sarah loves visiting Molly, and Molly soon finds herself looking forward to the weekends when Greg and Sarah stop by to dine. The visits become more frequent, for Greg will do anything to make his young daughter happy. But who is really benefiting from the visits? Three lonely people soon find out their similarities and differences.

Greg appears to Molly to be an unemployed motorcycle bum without any goals. She certainly does not want to make the same mistake a second time, for Adam was a painful lesson for Molly. Molly also has no idea of Greg's independent wealth and mistakenly views his unemployment as laziness and irresponsibility. And what type of man travels with a child on a motorcycle?

I enjoy reading Christmas stories around the holidays, and this book proved to be all I look for in a good, uplifting, holiday novel. Janet Miller will leave you with a spirit of giving and seeing Christmas through the mind of a child. The book is for adults, primarily females, and will leave you in merry holiday spirits. I recommend "A Christmas with Sarah" to all who enjoy the aura of Christmas!
