5.0 out of 5 stars If you're looking for a Christmas movie, you found it.
It's too bad that people looking for a different kind of movie blame their mistake on the movie!

Okay, if you don't want a sad movie, this movie is not for you. That doesn't make it a bad movie. Any number of stars in a mistake. You just got the wrong movie.

If you throw up at the thought of tender, affirmative feelings, this movie is not for you...

3.0 out of 5 stars A Real Tear-Jerker
I almost used a box of kleenexes when I watched this movie on TV a couple of years ago. It is well acted, with an especially good performance by Kimberly Williams. I want to add though that it is extremely depressing and tragic, and is a little too sad for a Christmas movie in my opinion. It's too bad that people looking for a different kind of movie blame their mistake on the movie!

Okay, if you don't want a sad movie, this movie is not for you. That doesn't make it a bad movie. Any number of stars in a mistake. You just got the wrong movie.

If you throw up at the thought of tender, affirmative feelings, this movie is not for you. That doesn't make it a bad movie. There a millions of hostile movies out there. Pick one.

News flash: there really ARE towns in the U.S. like the one in the movie (which was in Nova Scotia). If you hate small, friendly towns, then stay away from them. They probably wouldn't like you either.

On the other hand, if you like the feelings that are supposed to be associated with Christmas, this movie is a rare find. It's very easy to flub on tragic scenes. This movie doesn't. The acting by Kimberly Williams is just right. The timing and the scripting of the scenes is just right. As Maria Del Mar said in the special feature, these people act the way people really act. They don't throw things or rant the way most movie scripts have it. Maria, by the way, played her part very effectively.

I'm no fan of Rob Lowe, but his lawyer convinced me. Maybe I've known too many like him. They really are like this. If this strikes you as stiff, get over it. You want a lawyer, this is a lawyer.

I'm as easily depressed as the next guy, but I did not find this movie depressing. Tragic, yes. Depressing, no. Not sure why. The fact that the husband and son were going to go on, going to make it and be okay. The reformation of Robert was credible. It was thoroughly prepared and touching.

So, I found it a cathartic movie and very much in the true spirit of Christmas.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Christmas Shoes, November 27, 2005

I enjoyed this movie more than many other happier Christmas movies. Sometimes we have to see what other families are going through in order to appreciate and even recognize what we have in our own lives. I especially like the shoes the young boy chose. Why? Because those are the very shoes that ANY child would choose for his/her Mom! Anybody with children knows that they do not choose the practical plain navy or black that will match everything in their closets or ours! They are the ones most likely to express their creativity without regard to what others think. I applaud the writers on choosing the most shiny, colorful and uplifting pair of shoes for their movie. What shoes could be better for a little boy who adores his Mom? What little boy or girl WOULDN'T choose those shoes?

3.0 out of 5 stars A Real Tear-Jerker, June 27, 2004
I almost used a box of kleenexes when I watched this movie on TV a couple of years ago. It is well acted, with an especially good performance by Kimberly Williams. I want to add though that it is extremely depressing and tragic, and is a little too sad for a Christmas movie in my opinion. The part where the little boy tries to listen to his mother's heartbeat to make sure she is still alive just about 'killed me'. Although it brings our attention to the things in life that are truly important, I personally prefer something a little more upbeat for the Christmas season.

Note: I see a sequel to this movie was made in 2005, called "The Christmas Blessing" about the little boy when he is grown up and becomes a doctor. It stars Neil Patrick Harris, who is an outstanding actor. I hope it is released on dvd sometime soon.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Christmas story you will never forget!, December 1, 2002
By
I just watched this movie on TV, and WOW.
I loved the song it was based on by "New Song", and this prompted me to watch.
It is the kind of movie that makes you think about what is really important in your life.
It touched me so much that it brought me to tears.
It is a wonderful movie for everyone, and is not just a "Girlie movie".
Would recommend this to anyone, and I can't wait to own it once released to DVD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Christmas Shoes is the greatest, December 11, 2004
I heard the song first by "NewSong" around Christmas time in 2000 and I could not help but start to get teary eyed. When I was at a concert NewSong announced they were going to make a movie based on their hit "Christmas Shoes" I was so happy to hear that. When I saw the movie in 2002 for the first time I could not help but get teary eyed again. When It played again in December 2003 I cried again. This movie is one of the greatest Christmas Movies that have came around in the last few years. I believe it is a great movie and when ever it is released I will by a copy. If you have a child or grandchild I recomend you watch it. However, I just want to warn you need to have a box of tissues standing by. God Bless NewSong for making such a great song.

This is a great movie for the person looking for the true christmas sprit. I will make you happy but at the same time bring tears to your eyes. I would recommed it for the whole family, my husband who generally does not like these kind of movies, but this is one that he will watch over and over.

When I first heard the song I could not help but to break down and cry for the little boy. Then I saw the movie. It very well acted on all levels. Then I read the book and nothing so well written could bring across a point that life is so fragile and innocent through the eyes of a child. I would recommend the music, book, or movie to anyone. I can not wait for TV movie to come out on DVD. I am going to buy several copies for family and friends to share in this truely heart felt story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Please put it on DVD!!!!!!!!!!, November 28, 2004
A Kid's Review
its a heartwarming thought-a son saving his money to buy his dying mom shoes to wear when she meets jesus in heaven. i have only heard the song, and i really want to see the movie. i saw the preview on the old site and it made me cry, and so did the music video. just let the chorus speak for itself:

sir i want to buy these shoes

for my mama please

its christmas eve and these shoes are just her size

could you hurry sir

daddy says theres not much time

you see, shes been sick for quite a while

and i know these would make her smile

and i want her to look beautiful if mama meets jesus tonight

this is a beautiful song and what ive heard a wonderful movie that i hope they put on DVD. this is the perfect movie for anyone (including myself) who loves a heart-warming, tear-jerking holiday movie that can be enjoyed all year long.

PLEASE PUT IT ON DVD!!!!!!!!!
