If you love listening to Christmas jazz piano this is a must have addition to your collection.
Music2914
They all have a little of the classic melody of popular Christmas songs infused with their own variations of the music to bring it back to a jazzy composition.
Lacey Losh
I finally gave in after a few holiday seasons and purchased the entire CD after "liking" just about every track on my Pandora Christmas Jazz station!

Christmas is over, but I just have to review this remarkable CD before I forget. I love jazz, and despite a plethora of Christmas jazz CD's on the market, most are not good. I bought this CD after reading a review on Amazon (thanks everyone!) and was absolutely thrilled with it. My husband and I are both musicians and were blown away, especially by "Sleigh Ride" - excellent piano playing. This CD is warm, enjoyable, lively, smooth...it's a delight. I cannot recommend it highly enough. This album ranks up there with Oscar Peterson's Christmas, and Vince Guaraldi's Christmas; high praise indeed.

This is only the second product review I have ever written, and it is the consistent quality of this CD that prompts me to write an enthusiastic endorsement. While the music is not groundbreaking in the least, it is a most solid and satisfying set of traditional Christmas tunes, the lion's share of which are secular. I am very much a Jazz Guy, and my tastes gravitate towards the straight-ahead jazz camp, with the piano trio as featured here being perhaps my favorite jazz ensemble. This CD falls squarely in that straight-ahead camp, without being the least bit square. On each tune, you will hear the melody clearly and simply stated, followed by an improvisational interlude, then back he goes to the melody to close out. Though it sounds formulaic and predictable, it most certainly is not, predictability being the mark of most inferior jazz. And I would agree that this is a CD that could be thoroughly enjoyed by someone who claims to hate jazz; the straight-ahead jazz fan will be ecstatic with it!! I am a last-minute Christmas shopper, with Christmas Eve day being my favorite shopping day. That shopping pattern makes me feel pretty under-the-gun, once my shopping mojo kicks in. If I were at Nordstrom, Christmas Eve day, focused and in my shopping groove/crunch mode, and I heard Eddie Higgins (may he rest in peace) playing Christmas tunes on the Nordstrom grand piano, I would stop and listen for an hour or so, this versus the tune-and-a-half listen I would typically give a lesser player. This may sound like faint praise, but it does accurately reflect my feelings about and affection for this CD. I am stingy with stars, so that fifth star is hard to pry out of me -- well deserved here, however, and, again, I do endorse this CD without reservation -- great Christmas music, from the first note to the last! Excellent support/work from Jay Leonhart on bass and Joe Ascione on drums, as well. Terrific!!

If you like jazz trios, or even if you don't like jazz trios, this is a really nice Christmas CD! While I change out CDs frequently, this CD stays in my CD changer the entire month of December. Great for dinner, talking with friends, decorating the tree, sitting by the fireplace, etc. To show you how much I enjoy it, I just purchased "Christmas Songs II" by the same trio, which is an import only, Korean Exclusive. I cannot recommend this CD enough.

Great CD by the Eddie Higgins trio. Don't wait 'til Christmas time to listen to superb arrangements of some of your favorite holiday tunes. I bought the CD after listening to Sleigh Ride on a local jazz station. Wonderful! Makes a wonderful gift!

I heard snippets of this CD on Yahoo radio and fell in love with the mellow jazzy style of the Christmas favorites. Not melodramatic "smooth" jazz but simple, innovative versions that are beautiful and light. A great mix to put on during a Christmas party as people mingle with cocktails and twinkle lights. I love it!

I bought this album after hearing a song or two on my Pandora Christmas Music Station by the Eddie Higgins Trio. I loved what I heard, and wanted to hear more.

Every song on this album lived up to my expectations. They all have a little of the classic melody of popular Christmas songs infused with their own variations of the music to bring it back to a jazzy composition.

This would be great background music for a holiday party, but I like to listen to it all throughout the season. I listen at my desk at work, while decorating the tree and baking treats.

This album quickly became the favorite of my Christmas music collection.

Eddie Higgens just doesn't "run through the changes" of each song. He developes unique, interesting, melodies in his improvisations that make this album a standout. It can stand alone as a "jazz album" vs. just a "Christmas album." You'll find yourself playing it in July.
