There have been many styles of "interactive" musical books created over the past 20 years-maybe more- but this one, with the "song-stepper" button, which allows the user the stop the song at any time and switch to another, or none at all, is the very best. And sadly, it is the style that is no longer made. The "song-stepper button allows complete control over playing the various songs and sound effects, instead of forcing the child (or whomever is playing with the book) to wait for an annoying song to end. My son has autism, and as any parent of an autistic child will attest, "cause and effect" toys are the most beneficial (and fun too). Golden Books, a company in Wisconsin, stopped production of these books some years ago. There were about a dozen (maybe more?) different titles made, each with different songs and sound effects. They run on "button" style batteries, and their "membrane" buttons (the exception is the song and effect-changing "stepper" button which is a black plastic "spring-back" button) are vulnerable to liquid spills, so a fair amount of care is needed to keep them functional. But they are like no other musically interactive book for children and I mourn their disappearance from store shelves. They still can be found occasionally in used book and thrift shops as well as online at Amazon and Ebay dealers. But their days are numbered. Get 'em while you still can.
