This CD was originally issued in 1993. It's been released with this title & "Christmas Gumbo" by the Right Stuff Label, a Capitol label. This 2006 release contains the same music as the two other releases, but has the third different cover the set has seen. The CD opens with two original Domino tracks. "I Told Santa Claus" has Domino's famous piano bounce with some jaunty horns, "Eenie meenie minie moe, baby, please don't say no no no." "Christmas is a Special Day" is the other original with a loping beat, a pedestrian melody and a trite lyric, "Since that day, we're never lorn, that's the day our Savior's born; Yes one day when we were lost, yes he died upon the cross, yes he died for one & all so our souls wouldn't be lost." Perhaps surprisingly, one of the best tracks is "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" that seems to energize with Domino's beat and arrangement. "Blue Christmas" also is great with a super-extended musical bridge & Domino's upbeat jazzy arrangement juxtaposed to the lyric that is one of Christmas' saddest, "I'll have a blue Christmas without you; I'll be so blue here without you." On a couple tracks, "Jingle Bells" & "Silent Night," one wonders what happened with Domino sounding bored or in poor voice. "Amazing Grace" concludes with an instrumental New Orleans arrangement. This set has some bright spots, but is one I always hope I'll like more than I do when I actually listen to it. There are a few good tracks! Enjoy!

Ahh. Fats Domino. What a great musician, song writer and showman. Put him together with Christmas and you get a very memorable seasonal soundtrack.

However, don't expect to hear a rock and roll pioneer harking out Christmas tunes during his prime. This album was actually made in 1993, and it sounds like it too. True, Fats sounds a little like he might be lacking emotion (it's probably the age) and the album lacks his trademark piano sound (he seems to be playing a keyboard instead), but overall, it is a great album. I make sure to put it on my CD player every Christmas season and it has created some great nostalgic moments for me. I'm sure it will for you too.

No one does it better than Fats.

This is yet another reissue of Fats Domino's 1993 Christmas album. Although this may not be Fats best album, and its not my first choice of Christmas albums to listen to ether. I love Fats work but feel this falls short of my exceptions, I love his original songs best "I Told Santa Claus" will definitely be played for many Christmas to come, and I do love his version of "Silver Bells" "Blue Christmas" and "Please Come Home For Christmas" he brings something new to old holiday songs that we have heard a million times like "I'll Be Home For Christmas", "Silent Night" and "White Christmas". With that said, I feel his style don't feel fully at ease with Christmas teams. But if like me your a Fats fan you'll be overjoyed to find this under your tree.

My wife loved the single of Frosty the Snowman and was disappointed I did not have it in my extensive oldies collection. Got the single then the cd. The whole lp is very good. Always loved Fats!
