Amy Corwin's "Christmas Spirit" is a delight to read, entertaining and rather witty. I have not read many Regency romances, unless one may count the Bronte sisters, so am unfamiliar with the genre. And so I started to read this novella merely as a divertissement from heavier reading (the Old Testament).
The writing is wonderful! The author's mastery of the simple declarative sentence is a delight. With most writers, a subordinate clause will wander out of control from time to time, disjointed from a forgotten sentence beginning. Her writing, however, is precise, accurate, measured and assured. Nor does that detract from her characterizations - far from it. They are nuanced and believable. I couldn't imagine who the murderer was, so to that extent we have a divergence from the mystery genre, but that did not detract in the least from my enjoyment of the book. She has the setting and the period right, from manners to local customs. This was a delightful read. I am pleased to recommend this fine author.

This was a fun read. Love to read Christmas related books during the holiday, but this was more about the mystery, about grown children having to be the responsible adults towards their parents, and a little of mistletoe. Funny, surprising, and great fun.

This is my first experience reading Amy Corwin. This title listed in my search of cozy Christmas mysteries. It appeared to be an interesting and light read and for $1.99 'Christmas Spirit' was definitely worth it. I found the story to progress easily and enjoyably. The characters were likeable and witty. 'Christmas Spirit' held my attention and kept me wanting the next page! Other than a few typos, I was very pleased with my selection.

More About the Author

Amy Corwin is a charter member of the Romance Writers of America and recently joined Mystery Writers of America. She has been writing for the last ten years and managing a career as an enterprise systems administrator in the computer industry. She writes Regencies/historicals, mysteries, and contemporary paranormals. To be truthful, most of her books include a bit of murder and mayhem since she discovered that killing off at least one character is a highly effective way to make the remaining ones toe the plot line.

In her spare time she gardens and has won several awards at local rose shows for her Old Garden and English roses. She has also been a birdwatcher and got her first Peterson's Field Guide when she was seven years old.
