The original traditional one-hundred-percent red-blooded two-fisted all-american christmas contiunues five years later with Ralphie, Randy mom and the old man. This time Ralphie has his eyes fixed on a car. But trouble is sure to follow.

3.0 out of 5 stars actually there are 7 September 10, 2012
By Ryan
do people realize there are 7 movies about this family. so it's not like this is some sort of thing that noone should touch. it fact many were done before Christmas Story, and noone really complained about the others. then again i guess the titles of the other weren't Christmas Story. that alone I guess will get people in a huff. I won't give it more or less then 3 stars tell i see it, cause i like to stay objective.

the others btw are:

1976 - The Phantom of the Open Hearth - Ralph is attending the prom. Yes, the TV films were all about a teenage Ralphie. This one also gives us the original film versions of the leg lamp story and the Orpheum dish-night fiasco, and the amusing build-it-yourself house story. It's my least favorite of the Ralphie films to watch though, because it's a bit depressing and probably the hardest to acquire a good copy of today, but still very enjoyable. Never released officially on VHS or disc. Ralph is played by David Elliot here, and the Old Man by the wonderful James Broderick. Mom is played by Barbara Bolton.

1982 - The Great American Fourth of July and Other Disasters - Matt Dillon plays Ralph in this one! It's probably my favorite of the Ralphie movies outside of "A Christmas Story". In it, Ralph goes on a disastrous blind date, marches in the 4th of July parade with his school band, and gets tangled up with Schwartz in a picnic race against their weasely buddy, Flick. Meanwhile, Mom takes up a washrag chain-letter, neighborhood drunk Ludlow Kissel surprises everyone with a firework from hell, and the Old Man puts on a fireworks display to thrill the masses. It's a must-see on every 4th of July for me, along with 1776, The Patriot, and Johnny Tremain. Great fun! James Broderick and Barbara Bolton return in this one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Son of a bi---! November 10, 2012
I had really low expectations for this movie due to all the negative reviews on here, but let me tell you they were all wrong! Now let's be truthful, nothing will ever come close to the original, because it is such a classic, but this will be as close as you could possibly get. This movie has plenty of laugh out loud moments, from the ice fishing to the resurrection of the lamp. Daniel Stern was great, he is always hilarious and this movie is no exception. Everything you loved about the original, is back. The fantasies, Flick's tongue, the a**hole Santa, even the Christmas present costume! Give this one a shot even if you just rent it. Sit back and be prepared to laugh, ALOT!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Bad Idea but not a bad movie October 31, 2012
I agree with just about everyone else- NO sequel should have been made of this movie- The beginning of this movie is pretty lame- they try and capitalize on all the jokes from the first film...Daniel Stern does not look like the "old man" --- and in the first movie Ralphie and Randy were a couple years apart...Now Ralphie is almost 16 and Randy is like 8?? But after the first half hour, the story is pretty good and it all comes together nicely in the end- Worth the price of a rental and nothing more.

4.0 out of 5 stars I enjoyed it! November 4, 2012
They really stayed close to The Christmas Story. Is it a spectacular movie? No not at all. Is it a movie worth the watch? Yes indeed and I really think you have to be a true blue fan of Christmas Story to find the heart to enjoy this movie. I think they did a wonderful job of making this movie for the "TODAY" viewers. It carries a lot of heart to it. I even got tears in my eyes. It is corny, caring Christmas classic. If you go in with no expectation you will enjoy and it will just make you want to watch the Christmas Story! I am not going to NIT PICK and over anaylize it all - I just truly enjoyed it. It is how you are suppose to be with movies. I don't think anyone involved in the Classic would be offended, if anything they would be honored! :) I recommend it!

3.0 out of 5 stars This ain't your daddy's Christmas Story.. November 5, 2012
By Rick
Being a straight-to-video release, my expectations were LOW going in, so I was suprised that I actually enjoyed it, but I agree with a previous reviewer - the overuse of the phrase "Son of a B**ch" really got things off to a bad start. I figured this would be a good clean family movie but after they dropped the S.O.B. bomb 2 or 3 times in the first minute or two of the movie I just turned it off and waited for the kids to go to bed. I don't have a problem with the language if it's done tastefully - in the first movie it was funny because a kid said it and it was just kind of spontaneous and unexpected, in this movie they did it just because they did it in the last one - the original has a few other choice phrases in it that either the wife or I know to "bleep" out with a well timed cough or some other distraction. But anyway, like I said I wasn't expecting this to be anywhere near the quality of the original movie. There were some laugh out loud moments and the story has a lot of heart, the acting is genarally good, Daniel Stern pulled off The Old Man quite well, though the actors playing Ralphie and Schwartz had a tendancy to overact. Overall it was a good story that would have benefitted from a little better casting and a few less "because-it-was-in-the-first-movie"-isms..

I am a huge fan of the original and I am such a fan that anything Christmas Story interests me so I figured I would give this movie a chance. Within the first 10 minutes I wanted to rip the DVD player out of the wall and throw it out the window. This movie is so bad, so horribly wrong that I cannot believe I wasted money on this. My first though is that it was a joke and maybe a play on the original which is fine. Pranking on the original is always sort of funny. The bad thing is, that this is not a prank and is serious. The actors including Daniel Stern and the kid who plays Ralphie are so bad, such bad acting that you will cringe when you see it. The narrator is no Jean Shepard and actually makes the movie even worse trying to throw in verbage from the first movie in referencing other things. The plot and the storyline are similar except that Ralphie is getting his license and a car and thats his Red Rider plus the swearing and rude behavior is not proper and almost forced. Plus the age difference between Ralphie and his brother is odd since in the original there was only like a 5 year difference and now there is a 10 year difference? I cannot believe they were even allowed to make a sequal to this movie. Trying to reenact the scenes from the original in a sequal is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. Do yourself a favor, do not ruin your impression of the original by watching this movie. It is one of the worst attempts at a sequal I have seen since the American Pie presents Band Camp. Stay away, stay far away!

1.0 out of 5 stars THIS IS ENTERTAINMENT?
How this film can even USE/BORROW the film title is beyond me. The first profanity uttered by a 'sweet child' is utterly repulsive. The film doesn't even deserve one star. Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars not that great
This movie was a good try at a sequel but never touch the original. If they had used the same characters it might have been better. It did have its good points though.

This is a joke, right?
Could be good, could be bad. Unfortunately, having a teen Ralphie lust after a 1950s car is just not quite the same as a kid wanting a "Red Ryder dual carbide-action range rifle with a compass in the stock" for Christmas. Worse, to have the dad still lusting after that same leg lamp... Read more
