Book Description

CHRISTMAS TALES offers three “ghosts of Christmas” in its three stories celebrating the magic of the season, as well as the lyrics of four original holiday songs. While primarily known as a Bram Stoker Award-winning horror author, John Everson explores his lighter side with CHRISTMAS TALES. It’s a book with heart that can be enjoyed by all ages.

“Christmas, The Hard Way,” was originally written as a holiday gift to family and friends. The story is a fantastical look at the Christmas holiday from the point of view of Will, a boy who comes from a family of... well... witches. To them, magic comes naturally. But at Christmastime, they pledge to give up magic to rediscover the importance of doing and making things with the sweat of honest labor. That will be a difficult – but important – lesson for Will to learn.

“Frost," the second tale of the collection, opens with David, a young boy from a broken home on an uneasy trip home for the holidays after visiting with his dad. But his trip takes an unexpected turn when a frost sprite in the plane window escorts him on a sidetrip journey that can only be seen as the start of "growing up"... and the beginning of a rekindled Christmas.

“Will You Spend This Christmas Night With Me?”, a new story written just for this Christmas collection, looks into the heart of a “lost man” who is living aloof and alone. The love in his heart has been buried with the memories of his family. Based on one of John Everson's original Christmas songs (the lyric also appears in the book), it tells the life-altering story of a lonely man who takes in a homeless child – or is she? – on Christmas Eve.

Heartwarming contemporary fantasies all, CHRISTMAS TALES – which also includes a handful of original holiday song lyrics and a link for readers to hear some original holiday recordings – will bring the spirit of Christmas to your heart.

5.0 out of 5 stars Three Wonderful Stories to Celebrate the Season December 12, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
John Everson, best known for his work in the horror field, takes a departure into light fantasy with three very different and very touching tales about Christmas--a witch learns the true meaning of the holiday season; an ordinary boy meets an extraordnary frost sprite, who teaches him a valuable lesson about acceptance; and a disheartened man takes a chance on a "homeless" girl on Christmas night, in a story that reminds us of the importance of remembering those we love. The stories you find here are fantastical and heart-warming, and perfect reading for a snowy night next to the fire with a steaming cup of hot chocolate.

5.0 out of 5 stars Start a New Christmas Tradition December 24, 2010
Format:Kindle Edition
The best stories are those that stay with the reader long after the last page is read. The three tales in John Everson's CHRISTMAS TALES manage to convey the true meaning of the holidays while still remaining unique and imaginative. Poignant, moving, and just about near perfect, these are stories of ordinary and not-so-ordinary people searching for the spirit of Christmas and finding it in the unlikeliest of places.

More About the Author

John Everson is the Bram Stoker Award-winning author of eight novels of erotic horror and the macabre, including his latest, the Fountain of Youth thriller THE FAMILY TREE, as well as the Bram Stoker Award-nominated tour de force NIGHTWHERE, the Bram Stoker Award-winner COVENANT, its sequel SACRIFICE and the standalone novels THE 13TH, SIREN, THE PUMPKIN MAN, VIOLET EYES.

John shares a deep purple den in Naperville, Illinois with a cockatoo and cockatiel, a disparate collection of fake skulls, twisted skeletal fairies, Alan Clark illustrations and a large stuffed Eeyore. There's also a mounted Chinese fowling spider named Stoker, an ever-growing shelf of custom mix CDs and an acoustic guitar that he can't really play but that his son likes to hear him beat on anyway. Sometimes his wife is surprised to find him shuffling through more public areas of the house, but it's usually only to brew another cup of coffee. In order to avoid the onerous task of writing, he occasionally records pop-rock songs in a hidden home studio, experiments with the insatiable culinary joys of the jalapeno, designs book covers for a variety of small presses, loses hours in expanding an array of gardens and chases frequent excursions into the bizarre visual headspace of '70s euro-horror DVDs with a shot of Makers Mark and a tall glass of Newcastle.
