This review is from: Christmas Time With the Judds (Audio CD)
The Judds have an awesome harmony that will never be replicated. They seem to believe every word of the songs they've chosen. my favorite of all time is Beautiful Star of Bethlehem. It is worth the $$$ just to hear this one!

Pure tradition,

This Christmas album is a classic in my family, so I am sure that my love for it is in part nostalgia. Even above and beyond nostalgia, however, this is a fantastic Christmas album.
The songs are mostly classics that everyone can sing along to, which I prefer over most new Christmas tunes - and are also sung in a classic way, not re-mixed or changed in an attempt to make them unique. The album also avoids all the typical country music instruments, so there is no twang involved, just pure Christmas tunes. The strong, clear voices of the Judds are beautifully suited for Christmas carols. And Naomi and Wynona complement each other well - Naomi's sweet melodies blend wonderfully with Wynona's grittier voice. This is, and will remain, one of the best Christmas albums in my collection.

A brilliant acoustic Christmas album,

The first thing that strikes you about this is the picture, which was taken in Switzerland and is still the best Christmas album picture I've come across. The music is also brilliant. Although it is country, there are no fiddles or pedal steel, so it appeals to some people who don't normally like country, something confirmed by previous reviewers. This is a generally laid-back album with the music kept to a minimum, putting the focus firmly on Wynonna and Naomi. Most of the songs are carols, though they also do excellent versions of Winter wonderland and Silver bells. Who is this babe? is an original song, while Beautiful star of Bethlehem is a lovely song which has been covered quite a few times, but nothing like as often as the other seven. Perhaps more imagination could have been made in song selection, but you won't mistake a Judds cover for any other, as their style is unique. Despite my reservations about the song selections, this remains one of the best Christmas albums ever recorded - and it's a bargain at the price.

I have had "Christmas Time with the Judds" for years, and look forward to December when I can pull it out of the Christmas box again. I actually carry it around with me during the Christmas season so I can listen to it anywhere; alas, it recently fell into the hands of my one-year-old and was destroyed. I will now buy two so I can have one on hand in case such a disaster occurs again. I am not generally a fan of country music, but the harmonies of Wynonna and Naomi are unmatched in richness and quality. I strongly recommend this cd to anyone.

This CD has become a Christmas tradition in my home,

I absolutely love each and every song on this album. My cousin and I sang in a Christmas "Little Ole' Opry" concert in West Texas and sang their versions of "Winter Wonderland" and "Away in a Manger". You can't miss with this CD.

I grew up with this album, so of course I like it, but: I do think it's a good album--the original songs really stand out among the traditional ones.

A perfect Christmas album for when the lights are low,

I have never been a big fan of country music, but I have always been appreciative of the pleasant harmonies of the Judds. There is something about when the singers are related to one another that makes the harmonies extra special. "Christmas Time with the Judds" is a relatively quiet album of Christmas carols, perfect for sitting around after the tree has been trimmed, when the only lights in the room are the little colored blinking lights and maybe a yule log on the fire. Brent Haher and Don Potter arrange the traditional songs to suite the voices of the Judds. It is no surprising that "Silver Bells" is one of the best tracks on this album, but my favorite is the elegantly simple "O Holy Night." The Middle Tennessee State University Campus School Childrens Choir does a nice intro to "Away in a Manger." The musically arrangements are also simple, staying out of the way of the voices as much as possible. The one "new" song is "Beautiful Star of Bethlehem," which reflects the overall acoustic tone of the album. Every year "Christmas Time with the Judds" goes into the holiday rotation of CDs.

Few voices are better suited to the sentiment of the Christmas season than that of Wynonna and Naomi Judd. The mother-daughter duo's Christmas offering is a delight from start to finish, especially my personal favorite, "Winter Wonderland," in which their voices blend sublimely. Listen to this one on a cold winter's night in front of the fireplace with a cup of nutmeg-sprinkled egg nog in your hand and your dog curled up on a blanket nearby, and you'll be instantly cheered!

This was the second time I have purchased this CD - I wore out the first copy. There are traditional Christmas carols here that are performed beautifully by the Judds along with some uncommon ones that I hadn't heard before I bought this CD the first time years ago. This CD is a staple in my Christmas music collection. Love it!
