I've had this in vinyl, tape and CD. My family hears this CD off and on all year, but when the holidays hit, this is about the only Christmas music that plays. I just love it, and I've put up CD's for my daughters to have after I'm gone, cause they say it isn't Christmas without Charlie!

This is one of my all-time favorite Christmas collections, and, like another reviewer, I'm replacing my worn-out cassette "from way back"! In addition, I would agree w/ yet another reviewer that a couple of instrumentals would have been a plus on this album. Nonetheless, the collection is warm, nostalgic, and truly brings me back to my Southern roots every time I have a listen. Charlie's mellow side and timeless lyrical renderings make songs like "Hallelujah" and "Little Folks" as enjoyable as "Our Favorite Time". ENDULGE - you won't be sorry you purchased this CD!

Charlie Daniels is best remembered for Devil went down to Georgia and other hard-rocking songs but for his first Christmas album, he chose to record a mix of mid-tempo songs and slow ballads. It's not what I expected when I first bought it but it works well and shows that Charlie can deliver without rocking hard.
What I particularly like about this album is that Charlie wrote or co-wrote all but two of the songs, these being an original song (Hallelujah) and a classic (Christmas song (Chestnuts roasting on an open fire)), so it contains plenty to interest those like me who have heard countless other Christmas albums. The original songs are all of a high quality and cover both festive and religious aspects of Christmas, though mostly the former. I particularly like the title track, which is about as close as he gets to the style normally expected of him. Another song in similar style is Mississippi Christmas eve. Charlie shows he can do romantic love songs when the mood takes him, as in My Christmas love song to you. Charlie remembers the religious aspect in another great song, Jesus is the light of the world. He remembers cowboys in Cowboy's Christmas gift but he remembers his Carolina childhood in two songs - Carolina (I hear you calling) and Carolina (I remember you). If you want the hard-rocking Charlie Daniels, look elsewhere, but if you want great Christmas music with plenty of quality original country songs, this is for you.
