Getting In Touch With Your Inner Turkey, September 16, 2008
This review is from: Christmas Turkey (Audio CD)
This is not something you want if you like your Christmas music handled straight. If, on the other hand, you enjoy the irreverence of the likes of Bob Rivers, then this Canadian musical comedy trio which, with several changes in personnel, has been performing parodies of most genres since 1991, will tickle your fancy.
You certainly won't find any familiar tunes among the 15 tracks, but a lot of what is here is genuinely funny - again, IF you like this sort of parody. The sound quality is good, but the liner notes are confined to simply a listing of the personnel, although they do hint at a Spike Jones & His City Slickers kind of mentality:
The Arrogant Worms, according to the notes, are: Chris Patterson - vocals, toilet plunger; Mike McCormick - Acoustic guitar, vocals, glue gun; Trevor Strong - vocals, chain saw.
Santa's Little Helpers are: Andy Thompson - keyboards, vocals, stomach pump; Andrew Affleck - basses, rock riffs; Ken Post - drums, vacuum cleaner; Jon Park-Wheeler - guitars, mandolins, pliers; Don Reed - violin, stapler; Doug Banwell - saxes, club.
The caption is taken from the artwork on the inside of the jewel case, which is the work of Malcolm Gilbertson of Bovis Design in Harrowsmith, Ontario who, according to the insert "took time out from leaping tall buildings in a single bound to do the jacket design and artwork."
Not something you'll play a lot each year, but kids from about 10 to 14 will love it.
