A pleasant Holiday album,
By pmg1975 (Minnesota) - See all my reviews
This review is from: A Christmas Wish (Audio CD)
Cris Groenendaal, a man with a liquid, limpid tenor, and known for his portrayals in "The Phantom of the Opera", "Ragtime" (which I've seen him in), and "A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum", has released a Christmas album that is a soothing, wonderful addition to your Holiday music library. With simple, yet elegant arrangements by his wife, music director Sue Anderson, Mr. Groenendaal sings with a collection of Christmas hymns and lively favorites. My particular favorites are all the Christmas hymns (especially "Gesu Bambino" and "Coventry Carol") which he sings so delicately and with reverence. For secular carols, "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town" gets a New Orleans Basin Street band feel which is quite fun, "Winter Wonderland" gets a similar treatment which adds a banjo, and "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" gets a sensitive rendering. I've already sent this album as a gift, and I recommend it for anyone who has an affinity for Holiday music beautifully sung by one of the most elegant tenor voices I've heard in a long time.
