"Christmas with Patti Page" is a classic family christmas cd for christmas morning when the kids and adults open their presents. It is full of so much fun and cheer, smiles will be plentiful and the mood of christmas will be in the air.

Recorded, I believe, in the 1950`s or 1960`s, it`s traditional style is as good today as it was back then. I would compare it as a mix of Rosemary Clooney`s "Songs from White Christmas and other Yueltide favorites" and Ray Conniff`s "Christmas with Conniff." But Patti Page does keep it original as well, especially with the children`s chorus which back her up in almost every song. And let me tell you, this is the best children`s chorus there is, at least that I know of.

One of my favorite versions of SANTA CLAUS IS COMING TO TOWN (and just maybe my favorite) is on this cd as well as other great songs like SILVER BELLS (one of my favorite versions as well), RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER, and great new ones like CHRISTMAS BELLS and the beautiful HAPPY BIRTHDAY JESUS (A CHILD`S PRAYER) which will probably really move you, maybe even to tears as it is just so sincere as the children`s chorus hum SILENT NIGHT and Patti Page reads a child`s prayer to Jesus as if being that child herself. Real moving.

Again, this is a great cd for christmas morning, but for any time at christmas as well, when decorating the tree, baking cookies, and just whenever you feel like listening to a good, cheerful christmas cd. This is one of my favorites.

I first heard Patti Page sing on her record album entitled "The Waltz Queen;" and I have been consistently impressed with her vocal skills and the amazing extent of her repertoire ever since. On this Christmas album Patti Page doesn't disappoint me; she sounds better than ever and that's grand. Although Amazon notes that this album is produced "on demand," don't let that scare you away--the quality of the sound is very good!

"Rudolph, The Red-Nosed Reindeer" starts the album of with a charmer that brings a smile to my face every time I hear it. The percussion and the children's chorus enhance the ballad; but Patti didn't truly need too much to help her along; her talent carries her through every track on this album. Her excellent diction makes her singing all the better, too. "Silver Bells" is very well done; Patti never lets go of a single superlative note and listen for yet another gem in "Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town." "Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town" has Patti performing again at her usual best; and the children sing and harmonize to perfection--excellent!

"Jingle Bells" is another endearing tune in Patti's more than capable hands; and again the children give this album a very "family" flavor that makes it so classic. "'Twas the Night before Christmas" shows how well Patti can speak lyrics and still make them seem so great; this works to great advantage as she performs this faultlessly! In addition, "Little Drummer Boy" lacks nothing--this music is all THAT good.

Other lovely, poignant tracks certainly include "Happy Birthday, Jesus (A Child's Prayer)" along with "Pretty Snow Flakes" which showcases Patti's excellent voice--and when the children join in they sing marvelously well.

Again, Patti Page shows her versitality in the song selections of this album. For us Christians, the song "Happy Birthday Dear Jesus" reflects what Christmas and our Lord Jesus Christ is all about. However, this is the only religious song in the album.
Her Columbia albums revealed a deeper and richer voice in Patti. The material is good, and Miss Page doesn't disappoint her fans. Try this album, you'll enjoy it.

Everything Patti recorded for her Columbia albums in the 1960s was well planned and produced. Each LP had a theme and some of her best performances were recorded during her stay at Columbia. When this album was recorded fall of 1965, Patti was just coming off the Top 10 hit, HUSH HUSH SWEET CHARLOTTE. Patti's arrangers and producers decided this was a perfect time for a new Christmas album since the original 12 inch album on Mercury was 10 years old. Patti does marvels with SILVER BELLS, LITTLE DRUMMER BOY, the too often missed SANTO NATALE and of course the song which became Patti 's biggest Christmas hit ever, HAPPY BIRTHDAY JESUS. Patti is a consummate storyteller and this selection again shows her skill, sincerity and perfection. This is a CD which is a family affair as many selections include an unnamed children's chorus. There are the secular and the traditional. This CD deserves to be available each Christmas.

I got this CD on amazon.com and gave it a listen. My copy has a different cover, but the songs are the same. Two songs I never heard before are Christmas Bells and Pretty Snow Flakes. Both feature children as background singers and sound perfect for the holiday season. Not sure if the children are related to Patti, but I wouldn't be surprised if they were. Santo Natale is another song you don't hear too often. Two tracks performed in a narrative tone by Patti are The Night Before Christmas and Happy Birthday Jesus (A Child's Prayer). Familiar tunes include Jingle Bells, Little Drummer Boy and We Wish You a Merry Christmas. Overall, a nice CD with rare tracks you don't hear that often. This CD is even more special now that Miss Page has passed away.
