geared to kids, but not my kids,

This review is from: Christmas in Wonderland (DVD)
Patrick Swayze plays a man who has just moved his family from California to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada within the past 48 hours. Just after arriving he learns the company he came to work for was bought out and he was laid off. It is currently Christmas Eve, his wife, who for some reason could not come with the family on the initial move, but was to join them that day, calls to say the flight was overbooked. She got bumped and doesn't know when she will get home. She reminds him to get a tree and presents. So he bribes his two sons, who have really bad attitudes about the move, to come with him to the mall and watch their little sister while he does the shopping.
*Spoiler Alert* Here is where things get really crazy. They are at "The Mall"--the big one, with a wave pool, a pirate ship, ice skating, a myriad other attractions, and, of course, Santa. The little girl insists on seeing him. She wishes for a million dollars for her Dad. Then, while her oldest brother goes off pursuing a girl, she and her other brother happen to have a bag of money land on them--from a couple of bungling crooks. Rather than turning in the money, the kids go on a spending spree, but the money is counterfeit. There are chase scenes, arrests, suspense, magic--everything that would hold a child's attention. But what caught my attention were the multiple incidents of profanity, name calling, crude phrases, kids needing attitude adjustments, portrayal of the RCMP inspector as a bumbling idiot, and a scene in the women's lingerie department discussing a pair of skimpy, sheer, black, women's panties and whether the Dad was buying them for his girlfriend, his wife, or himself. The character that plays Santa shows up as various other characters throughout the movie and at the end he works his magic to bring the family together and give them a happy Christmas. Many people love this and call it a good family movie. There are worse Christmas movies, but there are so many that are so much better that I would choose for my family over this one.

If you're looking for a little silly Christmas fun and would like to refresh your belief in dreams coming true, this is an excellent movie for you. And, the good news is, it's totally appropriate for kids of any age.
When a family is not doing so well at Christmas, and one of the kids asks a mall Sants for a million dollars, and that wish just happens to come true... Well, what could possibly go wrong? Christmas in Wonderland definitely has the fun factor! No great surprises, but a cute film. The addition of Patrick Swayze, Tim Curry and Chris Kattan to the cast is a big plus.

Wayne Saunders (Patrick Swayze) is forced to leave L.A. to move to Edmonton CA. The kids get lost in the mall the youngest wants to see Santa. After visiting Santa a wish comes true they find a bag full of money. The only problem is, its counterfeit cash and the problems start, after they go on a spending spree. Its a must see movie, my family got an enjoyment out watching the movie.
We just can't figure out why it's so hard to purchase this time of season. Unless it was because it was filmed in Ca. The 2 boys Matthew Knight and Cameron Bright who played in the movie are from Canada and did a really good job of acting. What really made the movie was Amy and Zoe Schlagel playing the part of Mary Saunders, and believing in Santa and the miracles that happen. I would put this movie in the classics category Miracle on 34th Street.

I bought this DVD without knowing anything about it for my 9 year old granddaughter who lives in another state.
She watched it at least 20 times whilst she was with me and never tired of it. I have had kids watch movies over and over again but this was exceptional. She took it home and they all got to watch it again and again. It is a great kids movie for the whole family AND it has the late Patrick Swayze in it. How good is that!

A really great Christmas movie filmed at a huge mall in Canada. Its not the best Christmas movie ive ever seen but well worth the money. The chase through the mall on those crotch rockets was "really hilarious"!

PeniH,

Christmas in Wonderland was written with a lot of love and heart. The writer was able to capture the true feeling of a struggling father who loved his family deeply and wanted to make life the best for his kids. In doing so, the youngest knew she wanted to help her Dad, so when the miracle appeared, she new in her heart that everything was going to be OK. This is a great holiday movie and should be released on DVD now. I know I plan on watching it during the next holiday if not sooner. I don't know why it took so long to be released for viewing, even if it was on TV. Maybe Canada has a say so on what happens since this was filmed in the South Edmonton Mall. I just hope it gets released soon. Loved the movie. Love the Writer. She's the best. I look forward to more of her screen plays being made into movies.

Christmas in Wonderland
Is this a great Christmas classic? No. It's more modern Christmas fluff. It's fun, it's goofy, and it's got enough Christmas magic in it that it's definitely worth a watch. Probably worth more than one watch. Beats the heck out of a lot of the other TV Christmas movies that have been made in recent years. And having several of my favorite actors in it helped. Tim Curry and Patrick Swayze always satisfy, just like a Snickers bar.

I bought this movie because Amazon had this as one of their daily deals during Christmas for cheap. It was kind of cute. I didn't like that they had some actors act "so" stupid in it. I hate that! Being one of Patrick Swayze's last movies I took a chance and bought it without seeing it first. If I had watched it first, I wouldn't have bought it.

A Fun Movie,

Christmas in Wonderland is a fun movie, suitable for children 10 and up. I look forward to sharing it with my grandchildren. It was refreshing to watch a movie that differed from the usual Christmas fare. So many seem to follow the same pattern--single parent meets another single parent, etc. The Santa appearances were unique and added a bit of mystery to the story. All in all, watching the movie was a delightful experience.
