This a wonderful CD. The music is bright, lively and very relaxing. It's definitely a celebration of Bach. It's a wonderful way to escape the stress and problems of everyday life. Don't let the German titles of the pieces scare you off. Anyone who likes classical music should enjoy this CD. It's also an excellent CD for someone who's just getting into classical music.

A beautiful recording, made be a superb artist who clearly reveres this sublime music and plays is accordingly. The recording of Bach's "Sleepers Awake" is especially esquisite - it's so lovely I find myself pausing in the middle of whatever I'm doing when it plays to enjoy a small wave of serenity, and reverence for the unsurpassed beauty of this music. It can bring tears to the eyes even after a hundred listenings. Thanks, Christopher for your artistry! Your music plays often in our home, and sets a lovely, serene, and calming tone.

Christopher Parkening is a genius. If anyone doubts that, I give and advice: hear this album. His technique is impressive, his notes are so clean! And his feeling, his passion in his playing is very beautiful, it really represents the soul of it, I'm sure that Bach would be very pleased and proud of Parkening's playing.
AMAZING!!!!!

...both the composer and performers. Don't overlook "Withstand firmly all sin" (Widerstehe doch der Sünde), Listen closely to the amazing chord changes behind the melody. I don't think you will find anything similar in Handel or Vivaldi, although those two write very beautiful music.

I also love the long, flowing lines in this and other Bach pieces. You think the phrase is finished, but it continues. I think Bach is not satisfied with beautiful; he wants to go beyond that.

Another example of Bach's long, flowing lines is the E flat minor prelude (6 flats in the key signature!) from the well tempered clavier book 1. I think Stokowski's transcription for orchestra (recorded more than 80 years ago, available on Amazon, perfect 5 stars from reviewers) may express it best. Again, after 5 minutes or so, your ears tell you it will end now, but Bach adds another great idea.

This is wrongly listed as Cantata 140. It's Cantata 54!

Highly recommended, specially for those Bach enthusiasts. This

recording is also a moving guitar performance by Parkening.

Remembering a quote "most of us go to our graves with our music still inside us"...Thank goodness it can't be said of Bach. Having it interpreted by Christopher Parkening is perfection. This is music to calm and feed the soul. The clarity and pureness of Parkening's playing is beyond words. I have many of his CDs, but this is my favorite. I use it for oncology massage and it gets comments of how wonderful it "feels" to hear it. Bach and Parkening would be thrilled to hear that review!

I consider Christopher Parkening one of the greatest classical guitar artists. This is an excellent album of arrangements with guitar and symphony plus Bach is my favorite classical composer. Awesome album!
