Award winning novelist, Jane Porter made a smashing debut on the chick lit scene with her single title release, The Frog Prince (Warner, May 2005). With a Bachelor of Arts degree in American Studies from UCLA, and a Master of Arts in Writing from University of San Francisco, Porter has had incredible success as writer of contemporary romance. This storyline was really great but it went flat fast. I liked Christo but I truly couldn't deal with Alysia and all of her crazy long winded thoughts. It went on for pages and pages. I was turning my kindle pages at the speed of light. She was a wimp, and couldn't face reality, her dad, Christos, the housekeeper, Christo's parents, her dead kid but she could have sex faster then a hooker by Bronx terminal market! I really didn't care for this book, I found it kind of dull.

Quite frankly, everything in this book scored points with me. You have a heroine (Alysia) who has endured the worst life has to offer yet still manages to have spunk and a backbone. You have a hero (Christo) who after meeting her once, promises himself that he would marry her (and even after she tried every which way she could to thwart their union), stuck firm. There's even an overbearing, hypercritical mother-in-law who Christo oh-so-firmly puts in her place when she dares to criticize Alysia. I mean, how many times have you read a Harlequin book and there is always some family member or long-time family employee who treats the h like crap and the H does nothing about it. Not Christo. He tells his mother to either treat his wife with respect or she is not to set foot back in his house. The rest of the book could have sucked and I still would have given it 3 stars just for that. That it was a well written, excellent read with full character and plot development was just icing on the cake.

Alysia has a father who cares nothing for her. At a young age, she gets married and has a child, but soon after, her baby dies from neglectfulness and Alysia has a nervous breakdown. Now locked away in a convent, her very rigid, very Greek father (who believes Alysia is a disgrace) gives her the option of remaining in the convent or marrying Christo. She chooses to remain in the convent. I found that a hilarious blow to any man's ego.

She fights him every step of the way. I loved that she had that much strength and backbone, and that she's capable of standing up for herself when noone has ever stood up for her before. I can't reveal what happened with her baby without issuing a spoiler alert, but I loved that Christo recognized (and sought to prove her goodness) even when she couldn't see it in herself.

This book was like an emotional punch to the gut. I found myself tearing up when it was revealed what Alysia went through. I've only read a couple of Jane Porter novels but they have both struck a deep emotional chord in me. This one was no exception. Exceptional writing and a beautiful ending.

Highly recommend. 4 1/2 Stars.

It's a very romantic story about a Greek man, his name is Christos, who promised himself when he saw Alyssa that he will make her his wife, after 10 years he fulfill that promise and they fall in love :)
