This review is from: Christ's witchdoctor: from savage sorcerer to jungle missionary
I read this book during the summer of 1982. It was part of the lending library of a church near Des Moines, Iowa.I read many biographies during this period of my life. This book ranks near Brother Andrew's " God's Smuggler " and Corrie Ten Booms " The Hiding Place " as challenging and entertaining stories of Christian lives.

I picked this book up second hand from the dusty shelves of my local St Vincents op shop and it has been an absolute treasure! It ranks up there as one of my absoulte favourite Christian stories/testimonies ever!! (other faves include The Hiding Place, Unchained, Chasing the Dragon, The Heavenly Man and Run Baby Run.)I particularly enjoyed this book because it takes you on the journey from the young witchdoctor (Elka's) point of view. Starting before the American missionaries arrived when he was a child, through his becoming a respected witchdoctor and to his faith in Christ and the challenges and impact that had in his life and those around him. Their people and culture are totally fascinating and what God does is wonderful! I highly recommend this book. |
