Christy Lane - great efficient teacher & not boring, November 11, 2009
Christy Lane has several dance tutorial dvds. She has the personality of a cool mother. She's a great dancer, lively, enthusiastic, corny & honest joker ("here's the next move just to confuse you more..") & teaches you fast, but simply, so it's easy to follow.
Christy introduces every move in 1/4 speed, the slowly speeds it up & she encorages you to practice every move she teaches several times before moving on & then practice more with the moves you've already learned to build up the routine & then more practicing at the end. It's almost a workout format which is great.
She givesyou the counts, the rhythm & is very detailed oriented, but so lively. The only thing you could ever want is more time with her so that you know every nuance of the dances.
You'll learn:
Freestyle
5 min - Christy alone & you'll learn the basics of loosening up, etc., of basic latin dancing, such as she has you roll your shoulders so your hips will naturally follow.
Salsa Line Dance
8 min - Christy alone teaching you the basic fwd/back step, side step, full turn, foot cross behind, freestyle (diff side step) & 1/4 turns. She has you practice a few times before moving on She has you practice for 2 min w/2 talented male dancers (line dance means no partner).
Cha-Cha Line Dance
9 min - Christy alone & you get side steps, cross behind, freestyle (diff side step), pivot 1/4 turn & again you practice for 3 min w/the same 2 male dancers.
Salsa (Parner)
6 min - Christy w/one of the male dancers showing the basics of show leads/follows, arm placement, what foot to start on for both men & women, using the basic steps you learned in Salsa line dance & adding a cross in front & how to do the turn (men to push with arm & how women should turn) & ends w/90 second practice.
Cha-Cha (Partner)
7 min - same as above, you get the idea w/added "chase" of one partner following the other.
Merengue (Partner)
8 min - very simple type of move mostly about bending the knees. Christy is w/the other male dancer to show you how both the men & women dance. Includes walking fwd/back, wrap turns, side step, push away, arms crossed slow step turn, etc.
Tango (Partner)
5 min - a rocking movement, women walk back/men fwd w/slight side step in the "quick quick slow" move & goes in a counter clockwide circle forever.
Fun Mexican Dances
2 min - Large group of people demonstrate the Mexican Hat dance & Congo (cameraman w/professional large hand cam follows w/kick at the end)
There are a couple other times like in the intro & some of the end practice that you see the talented dancing of the group of the other dances. Also has Espanol version of La Bamba in the menu, intro & credits.
