A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Christy Miller Collection, Vol. 4: A Time to Cherish / Sweet Dreams / A Promise Is Forever (Books 10-12) (Hardcover)
This is my favorite volume of the young Christy Miller books. I cried over the last two so much. I love when Christy and Todd are together, they're so perfect for each other! I've read all of the Christy books, and all of them made me want a hero like Todd.

I love this series. Robin Jones Gunn fills each book with drama, adventure, romance, and mystery. Every time I get one of Gunn's books, I can't put it down. I would definitely reccomend this book and all her other books to any teen girl.

I have to say Robin Jones Gunn is probably one of my all-time favorite authors, her stories just capture my heart and I have to literally force myself to put the book down, I actually started out with the Sierra Jensen series and fell in love, it took me a little while to first get into the Christy Miller series because Christy annoyed me, but ah, pure delight!
I actually waited over a year for this book, and I FINALLY got it last weekend as a birthday gift, I had to force myself to make it last the three days that it did, this is probably one of the best books I have EVER read, all of the sweet moments with Todd, ah, it seriously made me want to cry! :) Now I can't wait to get my hands on the Christy & Todd: The College Years collection! Trust me, you'll LOVE this series, it's filled love, laughter, God, and it's pure delight. The Sierra Jensen series is good too, and I highly recommend it as well! :) These books have really helped me grow with Christ, and I'm very thankful to Robin Jones Gunn for publishing these books!

This book came right when it was scheduled to arrive and in perfect condition. It was an awesome book too. I'm 13 years old, and I read the first Christy Miller volume in 2 days. I read the whole series quickly. I couldn't put this one down either and I read flew through it in a couple of days. Awesome book for pre-teens/teens. :)

Christy Miller has been waiting years for longtime love interest Todd to make a commitment. In A TIME TO CHERISH, the 10th installment in Robin Jones Gunn's Christy Miller series, Christy and her friends set off on a summer adventure onboard a houseboat, which just might help the on-again off-again couple take the next step in their relationship.
Sure enough, the romantic scenery and lots of pushing from Christy's overbearing Aunt Marti do the trick, and Christy and Todd finally declare themselves a couple. Naturally, Christy could not be more excited. As she revels in the joy of being able to call Todd her boyfriend, plans for the future go into overdrive. While Aunt Marti begins thinking ahead to college degrees and their wedding, Christy attempts to simply slow down and enjoy the moment. However, even this proves to be tough, as best friends Katie and Doug do not necessarily share in her enthusiasm. Doug has had a crush on Christy for years, so her relationship with Todd has put an end to his hopes. And while Katie is happy for the new couple, it only reminds her that she is still missing a significant other in her life. Determined for Katie to be just as happy as she is, Christy begins a series of disastrous attempts to set her up with Doug. As it turns out, though, Katie might not need Christy's help at all. When they return to school for their senior year, Katie immediately becomes infatuated with an intriguing exchange student from Europe, and he is certainly returning her attention. Christy tries to warn Katie that the relationship might be dangerous, but Katie refuses to listen to her and their friendship reaches a breaking point. Is Christy just jealous, or is Katie really heading for trouble? A TIME TO CHERISH is the Christy Miller novel that fans have been waiting for. After nine books filled with "will they or won't they" drama, Christy and Todd finally decide to make it official and begin dating. Avid readers of the series no doubt will be relieved to see the long, drawn-out drama come to an end. The book also manages to deal with complicated relationships between family, friends and significant others in a realistic and positive way. At the same time, Gunn leaves A TIME TO CHERISH with an open ending that certainly will have readers eager for more adventures with Christy Miller. --- Reviewed by Jennifer Crosby

Incredible!,

No two ways about it, I love these books, and having a three-in-one version makes it all the better. This book contains the concluding volumes in the Christy Miller series, and it's interesting to see how she's progressed from Summer Promise.
In a Time to Cherish, Christy's relationship with Todd couldn't be better as they offically define that they're boyfriend-girlfriend. However, Christy's relationship with her best friend, Katie, on the the other hand, isn't going so well when Katie, desperate for a boyfriend and feeling left out, begins dating Michael, a non-Christian. This story was enthralling, and included some very sweet moments between Christy and Todd. It really inspired me to 'hold out for that hero.' In Sweet Dreams, after Katie's painful break-up with Michael comes slow healing, and Christy's beginning to think that everything is good again. However, she has no idea that she'll soon be faced with one of the hardest decisions she's ever had to face. I cried at the ending of this book, yet it hit me hard, making me wonder if I could make the same sacrifice as Christy did. A Promise is Forever would have to be one of my favorite books in the whole series. A large period of time has elapsed since Sweet Dreams, and we find Christy traveling to England for a mission's trip with Doug who's her new boyfriend, Tracy, and Katie. She expects the trip to be a good way to serve God, but she doesn't anticipate any of the speed bumps along the way, such as conlict in her group and trouble with Doug, but most of all, being sent to Spain to serve, away from the rest of her friends. This book will have you in tears at it's touching ending. A fun thing was that we're introduced to Sierra Jensen, Robin Jones Gunn's next book series. Having read the Sierra Jensen books already, it was interesting to see Sierra from Christy's point of view. Check these books out!

This is a three-books-in-one volume that includes books 10, 11, and 12 of the Christy Miller series. I've given a review of each story below.
Book 10 A Time to Cherish Christy, her friends, and her aunt and uncle take a houseboat vacation to Lake Shasta. She and Todd finally agree to start dating. And while this seems to make their relationship even better, it ruins everything for Katie and Doug, who now feel like third wheels. How is a girl to behave when she has a boyfriend and her best friend doesn't? And when Katie does find Michael--a guy who isn't a Christian--how is Christy supposed to be a good friend? By telling Katie the truth or by giving her the freedom to crash and burn? Christy doesn't know. This was a great story. After so much time that Christy had patiently waited for Todd, I was thrilled that they were finally together. But I could feel her pain with the situation with Katie. When our dear friends are in relationships that are destructive, it's hard to know what to do or say. With Todd's nearly always perfect advice, Christy learned how to love her friend no matter what. Book 11 Sweet Dreams In this story, Katie breaks up with Michael, and Christy tries to learn how to cope with someone who is constantly depressed. It seems like everything she does to try and help Katie is the wrong thing to do. This book was one of my favorites! And it was so bittersweet. Christy learned from Katie's pain and was obedient to God, and it was beautiful! And sad. I cried, I admit it. But I have hope for the future. ' Book 12 A Promise is Forever This book fast-forwards a year. Christy is halfway through her freshman year in college. She, Doug, Tracy, and Katie travel to London for a mission trip. Christy is searching for a calling, to discover what she should do with her life. What she finds instead is total trust in God. This book was another one of my favorites, though I have to admit, I was getting pretty grouchy alongside Christy when I realized what was happening with Doug. Still, this book was a beautiful example of how we--with our selfish emotions--need to get out of the way and let God work. I almost cheered out loud when I got to the end. You just have to read these books yourself to see what I mean. I very highly recommend this entire series for girls ages 12 and up. I adore these books. Christy is a lovely example of a Christian teen, who struggles with almost everything you can imagine. There is no better set of books out there to help young girls prepare for life. I will be putting this entire series in the church library. Someday, my little girl will read them. And while I wait for my girl to grow, I will go read Christy and Todd: the College Years. ' |
