5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding!
This CD could not get any better. I remember when his More....CD came out, that was the first time I heard of him. Now, he is probably one of my favorite singers of all time! What an incredible voice! If you like Toby Keith or Ray Benson from Asleep At The Wheel, you will definitely like Trace. The power behind his voice, almost gives you chills down your spine...

1.0 out of 5 stars SHOULD BE RE-TITLED AS: RUST!
I enjoy good music of any kind, but this "Tracey-good-ol'-boy" cd lacks polish and lustre. Hammy lyrics, and tired, worn out grooves and guitar riffs coupled with basic sound production, equals one boring colection of stiff songs.

Adkins needs to run alongside a few of the veteran singer-songwriters out there and brush up on his style. A couple more years on the road...

With the song "I'm Trying", this CD could not get any better. The message behind that song is so important to daily life. On another song, he has an little Irish influence in it as well. He may do ballads, but with his voice, he makes them power ballads. This CD is one you can keep in your car, and be cruising to. Great work Trace!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best voice in country has the best album!, November 15, 2001
This review is from: Chrome (Audio CD)
Trace Adkins has been singing for a few years now, but people haven't necessarily given him the recognition he deserves. Maybe this CD will change their minds. CHROME is loaded with hits, and it will keep you dancin' the night away!
The opening track is also the title track, telling the story of a girl who loves semis and cars and...Well, "Chrome"! The next song--"Help Me Understand"--is a typical breakup song, but with Adkins loaning it his voice, it's a masterpiece. "Once Upon A Fool Ago" is basically an uptempo version of "Understand," with the same ups and downs. "I'm Tryin'" is the ballad of a man struggling through life, never giving up. It's the anthem our country needs during these tryin times. It is followed by a similar-themed--and just as good--"Thankful Man." Adkins co-wrote the following track, "I'm Payin' For It Now", and takes the breakup song and gives it a somewhat sarcastic edge. "And There Was You" is maybe the album's lowpoint, but even it has it's ups. "Come Home" is again a song about love gone wrong, this time with the singer pleading his case. On track nine, "Scream", Adkins gives what may be his best work; that is, taking a song that could be considered pop, adding a country feel, and topping it off with his baritone voice. "I'm Goin' Back" is a humorous look at why the country is better than the city. "Give Me You" is off-kilter from most of the album--a song about the good side of love. The CD finishes off with "Love Me Like There's No Tomorrow", a powerful ballad that will linger in your head for days afterward.
CHROME is Trace Adkins's best work yet. I know you'll like it; if, however, you don't, you might want to get your ears examined--because something's very wrong! Buy this CD, and if your ears are okay, you'll enjoy it always.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Fabulous!!!!!, October 20, 2001

This is the best CD I've heard in quite awhile! There are so many styles of songs and Trace has no problem with any of them. His deep, pure voice can handle anything from rap to romance. When I'm not listening to the CD, I find myself humming the tunes and certain ones just stay in my head. My 13 yr. old loves "Chrome", "I'm Goin' Back" reminds me of my little sister who moved off to the big city,"Love Me Like There's No Tomorrow" would be fantastic in the soundtrack of a movie....I can't pick a favorite!!!! They all should be released as singles!

5.0 out of 5 stars Next Big Country Star, September 19, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Chrome (Audio CD)
All Trace needs is a break and he could be the next big country star. Trace has an excellent and distinctive voice that is a joy to listen to.
I brought this CD, Chrome because of his ballet "Help Me Understand". This song should have been a top 5 hit. In my opinion there is even a better ballet on this CD which is "Love Me Like There's No Tomorrow", which I hope is released as a single.
Trace has a couple of up beat and fun songs, the title track "Chrome, and "I'm Goin Back".

The rest of the CD is fill with good songs that are just not filler material like you would find on other CDs. Some of the other songs that I enjoyed on this CD are, "Once Upon a Fool Ago, I'm Trying, "Thankful Man", "I'm Paying for it Now".
This was the first CD of Trace's that I have brought and since I have purchased the rest of his previous 3 CDs.
I would definitely recommend buying this CD.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Very Good Country CD, March 26, 2002

This CD has a mix of country ballads and faster, upbeat songs. Trace Adkins voice is very country. His music on this CD however, sways somewhat away from that traditional sound. The beginning song "Chrome" is unlike anything he has every done before...it is very mechanical with a lot of electric guitar. His voice pulls it back to the country realm though. Song #2 is a beautiful ballad about him losing his lifetime love and how is he ever going to get over it. "I'm Trying" is of course, the first single released from the album. "Thankful Man" is a retake on his blue collar upbringing and traditional Adkins type verses. "I'm Going Back" is about the country boy-living in the city-and hating it song. "Love Me Like There's No..." is another ballad and very pretty. (I like #2 better.)
It is worth buying, especially if you are a fan. Some of the music is just a further reach for him as compared to his previous albums. I would categorize him with Toby Keith...that type of music...except that Trace has a much deeeeeeeeeper voice. But their words, melodies, and goofy songs are similar.

Okay - so you're here at Amazon trying to decide whether to buy this album or not....correct?

You probably know of the terrific, deep vocal power that singer Trace Adkins possesses...but you are probably wondering whether this latest album is worth the money....correct?

Well listen to the sample tracks....my favorite is There Was You....but Chrome, Scream and I'm Tryin are also WORLD CLASS hits that will have you singing along again and again.

We've owned the album 24 hours and have played it over and over and over.

Yes - it's that good, and well worth the money. From our perspective, it is the BEST country album of this year, and we listen to a lot of country....so we don't say that lightly.

Enjoy...!

5.0 out of 5 stars So good to hear his voice again..., January 7, 2002
This review is from: Chrome (Audio CD)
This CD is outstanding. Trace is one of the most talented (and humble) artists of today. I am just so glad that he is back on track with his career. There really isn't a song that I don't like on the CD. He's one of those artists that you feel really relates to his music. My favorite part of the whole CD is a line in "I'm Going Back" about going up to a lady whose hair is really wild, only to discover it's a guy. And the fact that that it didn't phase him was really freaking him out. I just felt that way the other day!
Just trust me and go buy this great CD! You won't be disappointed!

5.0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT! BUY THIS CD!!, January 3, 2004

Peter (Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada) - See all my reviews

This is the cd that introduced me to the wonder of Trace Adkins. I'd never heard him until i heard the songs "Tryin'" and "Help Me Understand" on the country radio station. That song is a power ballad that just rips my heart out every time i hear it. There is such pure honesty and conviction in his voice when he sings this song. I don't know how anyone can't be moved by this song. "Tryin'" is another amazing power ballad that is an inspirational song about not giving up when life constantly throws obstacles at you. It's also very moving in the way Trace delivers it. The opening track "Chrome" is amazing! He starts the song with a sexy growl and sings about cars and his big black Mack truck. He talks about the truck in a very sexy way, and about a woman who loves trucks and cars. It is very much a novelty song for Trace, as it's probably the closest thing to "country-rap" from Trace that you'll hear, but Trace pulls off the song with confidence and it's a fun song. There is not ONE bad track on the cd. Every single track is amazing and great! The cd is loaded with hit singles, many that didn't get released but should have. What i love most about Trace Adkins is that his voice doesn't sound like any male out there in country at all. He's a one-of-a-kind original with his amazing rich baritone voice. This guy sings pure country from his heart and soul. This cd sold me on Trace Adkins and i bought many of his earlier cds too, and they are all great! This guy was inducted into the country music hall of fame and i'm really happy about that. You can tell from seeing him in interviews and listening to the way he sings that here is NOTHING phoney or fake about Trace Adkins! The guy is a good person and has a good heart, which shines in his music. His honesty and purity of voice makes his songs of love or loss or heartache that much more believeable. Trace, you have a fan for life. Can't wait to get your latest cd. I hear it's even better than Chrome. I find that hard to believe you can top this cd, but if you can, then WOW! Your Chrome cd is total perfection! I'd rate it higher if i could.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great album, despite weaknesses., November 12, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Chrome (Audio CD)
This album shows Trace Adkins taking on a little more pop-ish sound and he still manages to pull it off without turning into a wimp like Tim McGraw and others. Highlights on the album include "Chrome", "I'm Tryin'", "I'm Going Back", "Help Me Understand," "Thankful Man", and "I'm Payin' for It Now" which he delivers in typical, fabulous Trace fashion. However there sone songs that seem to stand out. Songs like "Once Upon A Fool Ago", "Scream", and "Give Me You" sound a little too pop-ish and psychadelic for Trace. While this is a new direction that Trace is pulling off quite well, he doesn't need to push the envelope too far.
