Editorial Reviews

Southern California's Slightly Stoopid have cemented a signature sound by fusing acoustic and electric rock with blues, psychedelic dub reggae and hip-hop. Catch Chronchitis, the band's 5th studio album, produced by Mario C, Paul Leary, Miguel and Chris D out Aug 7th on Stoopid Records/ Controlled Substance Sound Labs. This stellar album features a little help from friends such as G Love, Guru of Gangstar, Angelo Moore of Fishbone and Money Mark.

Once again everything I expected and more. What a great follow up to closer to the sun. No punk songs on this albumn (whick kinda dissapoints me), but it's ok. I'm not sure there should be any ont this album. The whole album grooves perfect together from track to track (17 tracks). Bought this album first thing this morning. Fortunally I have a job where I drive a lot and was able to listen to it straight thrugh 3 times. No skipping tracks here people (Not that I do with any of their albums anyway). Good job, again fellas!

Superb sound on this album. This is a great chill album and perfect for coming after the Closer to the Sun album, which was upbeat. With songs like "Ocean" and "Jimi" will really give you the feeling that you are actually close to the waves. Angelo Moore of Badfish ads some great vocals to the song "Ever Really Wanted" and G. Love stops in to record "Baby I Like It." With these guest artists and the already amazing sound that is Slightly Stoopid why would one even question about getting this album. Do your self a favor and get this CD so that you can also get infected with Chronchitis.

I just listened to this album and I am a little disappointed. All of the songs were slower with i guess you could say laid back but not in the way that collie man is. It just didn't seem the same I love their other stuff from acoustic roots to closer to the sun but Chronchitis didn't do it for me it was too flat. I'll listen to it some more an see if it makes a difference but I just hope when I see them they don't just play their new stuff. Don't get me wrong it's not a bad CD it's just
(in my a opinion) sub par.

Aggro young slam dancers ain't gonna like it... at all. But the guys have produced a very serious and sophisticated album, Chronchitis. I wouldn't say it's quite as good as Closer to the Sun, but they've definitely brought the end of the beginning for the band. Lots of continued Reggae/Ska of course, folk and some hip hop. But some of the horn arrangements are more along the lines of soul or funk ala War and "Low Rider." Some of the horn arrangements harken back to the Specials and were foreshadowed by the SS track on their live album, "Dancing Mood." They're not kids any more. No punk jams on here whatsoever. And while I don't like every one of the 17 tracks here, I admire their willingness to branch out and this is a very tight and slickly produced album. interested to see how it translates into a live performance. Ocean, by the way, is the best track on the album. Be prepared to mellow out with this album, it is laid back. But nonetheless a great effort at continuing the art of ALBUM making and not giving in to just popping out one or two good songs with a bunch of swill on the rest of it. And despite the album title, they've backed off from obsessing about ganj in nearly every lyrical interlude on the album. Threshold evolution for SS.

I've been a Slightly Stoopid fan some time after Everything You Need came out, and I have to say that I was disappointed with this album. The problem here is slow, monotonous, repetitive songs... and TOO many of them. There is too much filler in this album. 17 songs, ALL of which share the same sound, is unnecessary. Granted, some of the songs are great. But nothing can really stand out!

I love the songs Digital, 2am, The Other Side, and Above the Clouds, but I can hardly recognize these highlights over a lot of the other lackluster tracks. Where is the Wiseman, or Officer sound? Wheres the Fireshot, or Closer to the Sun sound? It seems like the band reduced their wide array of sounds to one chill, weed-tokin sound, which is a good sound, but not one to compose a whole 17-track album to.

I bought this item and it exceeded my expectations more than I could have imagined. This would make for a great chilled Christmas present. What a great way to bring in the new year with the sounds of Slightly Stoopid to warm your soul on those cold or warm wicked winter days. The new Stoopid album Chronchitis is one of their best yet. Anyone who is familiar with their previous work will be pleasantly surprised by the growth in the newest album. In particular tracks such as Ocean and Above the Clouds clearly demonstrate the growth the band has encompassed in their music and lyrics. Another song which takes the album to new heights is 2am and The Otherside featuring Guru of Jazzmatazz fame. Check out this album for some chill sounds and great music.

Slightly just gets better and better with age! I think they we're trying to find themselves with "everything you need" and "closer to the sun" after the AWESOME "acoustic roots" and "longest barrel ride" that were more of a punk/reggae model that Sublime came up with. Their live "winter" double disk really captured what this band is and really cast off some of the producing on E.Y.N and C.T.T.S.

I believe that with Chronchitis everything has come together, impeccable song writing, their freaking glorious guitar playing, and just overall "feel" to the album made it an instant contender in my favorite albums of all time. As I listen to it just continues to amaze me how much I like it.

I don't think its possible not to like this.
