Book Description

January 31, 2001 041520240X 978-0415202404 1
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is one of the most enigmatic medical disorders of our time, striking adults most often in their most productive years. With the controversial debate over cause and treatment of the illness in mind, the authors seek to unravel many of the questions surrounding the disorder and its features and characteristics.
Integrating an overview of the latest research with patients' personal experiences, they look at CFS in relation to:
* clinical features
* personal and economic implications
* biological and psychosocial factors
* experiencing symptoms
* coping with the illness.
This book will provide hope for people with chronic fatigue syndrome and will assist health professionals in working with people with CFS to improve their quality of life.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worse than Useless, February 6, 2011
There is a lot of misleading and false stuff in this book. Dr. Petrie defines "CFS" as idiopathic CF, and cites many studies by the Wessely school which all use this false "definition." There are also studies using the fairly valid Fukuda "CFS" definition, so it's just a sloppy mix of good and bad that in the end tells you nothing meaningful about ICF or "CFS".

The best book on ME ("CFS") is Osler's Web: Inside the Labyrinth of the Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Epidemic

1.0 out of 5 stars Miss this one, February 28, 2002

I have read many books on CFS and I'd have to say this is the WORST!! Although the book is fairly well written and the authors appear to have the information at hand, their interpretation leaves A LOT to be desired. Give this one a miss!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended and Helpful, March 21, 2002

This review is from: Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (Experience of Illness Series) (Paperback)
A scientific but very readable account of CFS. This book covers the main aspects of the features and symptoms of the illness as well as the important role of psychological factors. The book is helpful for those wanting an up-to-date review of CFS and methods of coping with the condition. Although the book my not be popular with those with an investment in a biomedical explanation of CFS those with a broader view will find this book of considerable value. Highly recommended.
