Book Description

A New Harbinger Self-Help Workbook November 1, 2006

Sixteen years ago, psychologist and author Michael Lewandowski devised a series of questions for patients suffering from chronic pain to identify specific factors that aggravate and perpetuate pain. Those questions became the Behavioral Assessment of Pain (BAP) questionnaire, which is now used throughout the world in the treatment of chronic pain. Now, for the first time, this book brings this powerful set of tools to people just like you who are looking for a way to live better with pain.

The tools in this book will give you control over your own pain-management process by helping you monitor your responses to pain. Use the assessments to help gauge your levels of physical and emotional pain, sleep habits, and general ability to function throughout the day. Then put the book's practical advice to work to maintain a higher quality of life despite pain. Ultimately, you'll start to achieve higher activity levels and a greater degree of fulfillment.

    Use these techniques to:
  • Reduce fatigue and boost energy levels
  • Manage medication use wisely
  • Change your thoughts about chronic pain
  • Stop avoiding pleasurable activities
  • Limit emotional pain and suffering
  • Enjoy greater family, social, and intimate engagement

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a great book! Helpful, Practical and Insightful., May 17, 2007
This review is from: The Chronic Pain Care Workbook: A Self-Treatment Approach to Pain Relief Using the Behavioral Assessment of Pain Questionnaire (A New Harbinger Self-Help Workbook) (Paperback)
I would strongly recommend this book for anyone who is living with pain. It has practical and insightful steps that really helped me with my pain. I found the exercises to be engaging and helpful in identifying things I could do for myself to feel better. I was resigned to living with daily back pain and after reading and actually doing the exercises in this book I have much less pain and even days that are pain free. Do yourself or anyone you love a favor and get this book!

I am a licensed mental health counselor in Fl working in a psychiatrist office. I give this book to my patients with chronic pain who want work between therapy sessions. I have had very positive feedback from my patients so I buy this title often.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible book!, November 16, 2011
This review is from: The Chronic Pain Care Workbook: A Self-Treatment Approach to Pain Relief Using the Behavioral Assessment of Pain Questionnaire (A New Harbinger Self-Help Workbook) (Paperback)
I had read many books on pain and this book was by far the most insightful. The author has done extensive research and has a deep understanding of pain sufferers. Beside being full of great information, the books has mini-exercises and questionairs that help deepen one's understanding of their own pain and its triggers.

Also, the compassion that you will find in this book is better than you will get from most doctors.
