I pretty much get just about anything by Paul Rodgers I can get my hands on. Of course I already own all of these songs in at least one other version but I still had to have this set.The Free and Bad Company recordings are all updated re-recordings and while it's hard to beat the orignal these version are a nice change of pace. I especially like the new versions of Alright Now, Can't Get Enough and Feel Like Making Love. The last three songs I believe are the same recordings from the Muddy Water Blues and Hendrix set discs. This cd is expensive but I am glad I bought it. I also recommend you get your hands on the re-recorded version of Rock and Roll Fantasy which I got on iTunes but is not on this disc or any other I know of. A version of Can't Get Enough is also available there I can't tell from the 30 second sample if it's the same version from this disc. So, if you're a Paul Rodgers fan and would like a break from listening to the exact same version of these classics that you've been listening to for the last 30 years this disc is worth it. I can't stress enough that I still love the originals but if you listen to music and Paul Rodgers as much as I do then you'll appreciate a little variety. After they don't make 'em like this anymore.

Paul can sing,

Paul Rodgers is an amazing singer, with the sweetest yet powerful voice in rock music. This collection of songs is modernized with new versions. These versions of Bad Company and Feel Like Makin' Love should be played over and over again. The production work is excellent. Geoff Whitehorn is great on guitar as are the other bandmates. For me, the original version of Wishin' Well can never be bettered, though the version here is pretty good. The Hendrix set is great too, particularly Angel. If Paul had put some other less famous songs (I've had enough of Can't Get Enough and All Right Now), it might have been worth 5 stars. |
