I love this album, because this is what true soul is about!! "The Sweeter He Is," "I'll Be the Other Woman," and "I'll Understand" are a few examples of the funk and soul that came from this group. Unlike Glass House, the Soul Children had an extremely funky, soulful, gospel-like sound that could only be produced by Stax. Their harmonies were raw, loud, and kicking!! If you love Isaac Hayes, The Staple Singers, or Albert King, you'll love this.

This cd is one of the greatest by the Soul Children. I feel that the Soul Children is one of the greatest groups of the 70's and would like to hear more from them. Their songs were from the heart,and as a listener you could feel it.

The Soul Children's CHRONICLE CD is a re-release of a 1979 Stax LP. As such it has the strengths and weaknesses of most of the Stax LP's of the time. The main (and actually, the only) weakness on CHRONICLE is that, in my opinion, many of the songs are average at best. Stax Records routinely made LPs this way, mixing in great songs, many of them hits, with filler.

But this CD also showcases the best of Stax. The great arrangements, outstanding backup musicians featuring some beautiful work by the unbelievable Steve Cropper, and the Soul Children's simply gorgeous vocals make CHRONICLE well worth owning, even if you only listen to some of the songs.

more of their recording.

This is a gem for all of the old schoolers out there. This brought back so many memories of what the music industry lacks today - true singers. I still get goose bumps when I hear the harmonizing that is so elegantly done on this CD. Buy it if you want to hear great singing and musicians.
