Well Worth Your Money!,

This review is from: Chronicles 1 & 2 (Audio CD)
This double CD of both chronicles is a steal. Having only owned one Eloy album (Floating) way back when, I can't say that I'm an expert on the band but I am a long-time fan of space music or whatever title you want to give the genre. If you are a fellow music fan of the Floyd, Yes, Genesis, Camel, Nektar and the like, you will enjoy every track offered in this package. Of the many Amazon purchases I have made in the past year this one is by far the most satisfying. Brilliant guitar and keyboard solos bring the listener into the ethreal world of Eloy.Get this CD. Five bright stars for this one... (Thanks to all the other reviewers at Amazon for all your help!)

Eloy into the 21st Century,

Eloy have managed to do what most bands never think of doing, making a best of album by re-recording selected songs with a modern new interpretation.I have been an Eloy fan for more than twenty years and love all their albums, bar none. But the only observation I have about Chronicles 1 and 2 is the fact that their output from 73 to 76 is strangely omitted, which is a great pity. A song like Castle in the Air from 'Floating' with its mind blowing drums,or Inside from their 'official' first album Inside would have much more benefited from a new interpretation, using modern production facilities not available then, and it would have made an extremely interesting listen. The songs on Chronicles 2, especially the ones selected from 'Destination' are modern both technically and musically and did not require the same reinterpretation as much as the older songs did.Nevertheless these two albums are wonderful introduction to Eloy, a joy to their fans, and a great addition to any progressive and music lover's collection, from a band that is truly creative and original.

Eloy - If You Like Pink Floyd You Might Want To Check This Out.,

I never was really aware of Eloy before I found this CD in a used CD shop a few years ago. "Chronicles I" is a compilation of material from the band's albums that was re-recorded in 1993 and 1994. Since I have never heard the originals I can't compare these versions to what came before. Being my first exposure to Eloy I really like the material on these discs a lot. The recordings are all crystal clear and sound modern (circa early 90's). Again, I do not know how they compare to the originals, but the material here is for the most part very good. I have heard Eloy called The German Pink Floyd, and there is definitely a Floyd influence to their work. Nektar also comes in mind as a comparison. This appears to be a good representation of the bands career spread over the two discs. The vocals are all in English with a fairly heavy German accent. Overall I really like this stuff and need to explore some more from this band. Caravan did a similar thing a few years ago going back and re-recording a bunch of their early stuff. This approach seems to work well, maybe more bands should try it.

Good Floyd type music from Germany. I can see why they never really broke out...but they have talent. Just not a diamond like David Gilmore...which allows the songs to get a bit boring.

I really like the first volume which takes material from their mid 70's period to early 80's. I might seek out some of these CDs like Oceans. The second volume is pretty bad with rather ordinary, boring songs. I tried to get into it but it left me with an empty feeling. The second volume is not prog, it's straight forward garbage. The first volume has some nice proggy moments with Floyd influences.

Eloy may not be your typical billboard top ten type of music. Eloy music was never meant for it anyway. It is meant for music lover of the mystical type. Only true followers of Eloy can understand what that means. Don't wait go get this album and you know where Im coming from. ( best men don't regret if no get it!) If they ever have any concert on DVD of VHS can some body out there let me know.
