So excellent, July 24, 2009
This review is from: The Chronicles of Amber Vol.1 - Nine Princes In Amber & The Guns of Avalon (Hardcover)
I'm going to hazard a guess and say at least some of these offered are the book club edition, primarily since I purchased my copy years ago as such.
The paperback version of all 10 Amber novels is reviewed elsewhere (and how! Over 200 reviews!), so I'm not going to comment on the novels themselves. Go there if you are curious about the books, and you don't have much experience with science fantasy and/or Zelazny.
The hardcover books are very satisfying to own, and I think will stand up better over the long run. And if you loan them out, or have a curious child who is just starting out reading science fiction/fantasy, these are probably going to be less dog-eared when (if) you get the books back.
The stories are highly recommended. Very highly! I've always thought the books would make an excellent series of movies or miniseries on television. (Why so many superb SF stories are never made into movies, when so much inferior stuff is passed off as the proverbial 'intelligent science fiction movie', I just don't know.)
Buy these books. Ignore the occasional bad review, those people just don't know a great romp if it hit them in the head.
