Juicy J's solo release from the Three 6 Mafia showed how important he is to their success with this lp. The original version of "Like A Pimp" is found on here as the remake on Da Unbreakables. The song "Name It After Me" has one of those old school pimp type beats that should have been named Like A Pimp. "Mafia Niggaz" features the entire Mafia and Frayser Boy. Taken from Linkin Park, "Smoke Dat Weed" featuring Lord Infamous is an anthem for smokers, drinkers and popers. Chronicles contains three instrumentals that will keep you feening for some more. Juicy and his brother (Project Pat) teamed up to represent on "North, North Pt.2". Frayser Boy's flow featured on "Gimme Head" is quite impressive with Juicy J. There couldn't be a Three 6 presentation without "Who Da Buckest", that proves they are definately the crunkest of them all. Juicy's Chronicles is an almost classic and is necessary for Three 6 Mafia fans.

4.0 out of 5 stars ONE OF THE BEST SOLO ALBUMS TO BE RELEASED BY A 3-6 MEMBER, October 6, 2003
This review is from: Chronicles of the Juice Man: Underground Album (Audio CD)
THIS ALBUM IS DEFINITELY BANGIN. THIS IS TRUE SOUTHERN HIP HOP. SONGS LIKE THE NORTH NORTH REMIX, ''SMOKE DAT WEED'', ''WHO DA BUCKEST'', ''MAFIA N***AZ'', AND ''GIMME SUM'' ARE ALL TIGHT AS I DON'T KNOW WHAT, BUT THE BEST SONG ON THE ALBUM IS ''KILLA KLAN''. THE ONLY THING THAT HURTS THE ALBUM IS ITS LAST SONG, ''D**K SUCKIN H**S'' AND ITS OTHER POINTLESS INSTRUMENTALS. BUT OTHER THAN THAT, THIS SHOULD SATISFY ANY OF THE REAL THREE 6 MAFIA FANS OUT THERE. TRIPLE SIX UP IN THIS MOTHERF****R AND THEY AIN'T GOIN NOWHERE!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sounds The Way They Did Back In The Underground Days, November 26, 2002
This review is from: Chronicles of the Juice Man: Underground Album (Audio CD)
This cd ... will blow the speakers out your trunk. Juicy blends a little bit of thier new style with thier classic underground sound perfectly. Juicy even remakes some of my favorite underground songs like "Killa Klan" and "Gimme Sum", while commin with new stuff like "Smoke Dat Weed" which samples the piano part in Linkin Park's "In The End" to form a perfect smoke song, I don't care if your a Nun, once you hear that track you'll wanna blaze up a woober doober immediatly. This cd also got the old classic Triple Six style low low basslines and low hittin bass drums. Although I like this cd better, I also recommend DJ Paul's "Vol 16". So, if your a fan of three 6, especially thier old style, or even if u've never herd of them and your just lookin for sumthin the pound hard in your car, GET THIS CD.

4.0 out of 5 stars Probation and Parole is a Trap., November 10, 2003
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Chronicles of the Juice Man: Underground Album (Audio CD)
These solo albums are newer to the crazy click. Solo tracks by Juice have been on Three 6 Mafia/T.D.C.U.T. albums(such as da classic 'Slob On My Nob', as well as numerous other ones). MOST of these songs feature Frayser Boy and La Chat though, so I myself wouldn't really consider this a "solo". Although I dig H.C.P., this IS supposed to be Juiceman's solo, not spotlight for the rest of the camp, over half the album featuring La Chat and Frayser Boy. This solo was a good album to make on Da Juice's part, but it does sound a little rushed and not as great as it definitely could have been, although it is still a bumpin' brilliant album.
'Pimptro', a basic dedication to Juicy's brother Project Pat and his ridiculous amount of jail time to serve. Very fresh intro, better then all the others I've heard, an old-school funky beat and Juicy praising our wrong system.
Another bumpin' track would be 'Name It After Me' featuring posse member Frayser Boy. Very old-school beat here, very laid-back smoke-type track. If you like that type of style, download this track and decide if this song is worth buying the album alone. Frayser Boy delivers well for one of his first softer song apperances.
Onto the most talked about track from this album, 'Smoke Dat Weed', which features H.C.P member Lord Infamous Da Scarecrow and a Linkin Park inspired beat(yeah, yeah, In The End), although Juice made this song better then LP could ever dream to do. My favorite verse from this song is by the one and only Scarecrow, very good drug anthem. Now if you had any doubt on copping this album, please download or hear this song somehow before ya decide not to.
Now onto my favorite track from this album, 'Pimp Talk/Like A Pimp', featuring La Chat. The main thing about this song that catches me is tha beat, its one fo the crunkest I've heard so far. I downloaded this song just to hear something new and I HAD to buy this album after I heard that one track. I would recommend listening to this song over any other one.
'Soldiers From The Northside' & 'D!ck Suckin' Hoez' close the album, two bumpin' thumpin' beats that show J's extremely talented production. Juice doesn't rap on these tracks and doesn't need to. It always amazes me at Juicy(and Paul's) ability to produce such good music after so many tracks. They produce everyones music past and present who are in tha H.C.P. Think 'bout it, not just Three 6 Mafia's beats. T-Rock's. Project Pat's. Group efforts such as 'Choices', 'Da Headbussaz' etc. The Checkwriters are genius.
Thanks for reading this, I hope I made some sense out of this album. Pick it up today, can you dig it?

5.0 out of 5 stars Three 6 Comes Out With Another Hood Classic..., October 2, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Chronicles of the Juice Man: Underground Album (Audio CD)
This CD bangs from the Pimptro (dedication to Pat who's locked down for 4 years due to parole violations) to the last song. "North North Pt.2" is a bangin' track reminiscent of the gangsta vibe that comes out when the Houston brothers rhyme together; ie; "Sucks On Dick" & "Still Riding Clean". "Who Da Buckest" also features the incarcerated Pat recycling his old unforgettable rhyme as the hook. "Gimme Head" is a nice song which newcomer Frayser Boy shines as replacement for Project Pat. "Like A Pimp" is a forced track, this song maybe better if it had Pat rapping on it. To some of y'all in doubt, Juicy J delivers "Killa Klan", "Mafia Niggaz", "Dick Suckin' Hoes" & "Gimme Sum" which sounds like it was made from the old Three 6 days. One of the 2 standouts on this album is "Smoke Dat Weed" featuring Scarecrow, the 2 deliver unforgettable head-bopping verses in a sampled "In The End" beat. The best song in the album is "Name It After Me" which features Frayser Boy, The Juiceman talks about the harshness of the system & dealing with haters in a mild laid-back beat with a vicious hook, this song captures the essence of what point he's trying to make. The album is an overall banger, complete with instrumentals like "Soldiers From The Northside" bumpin' with heavy bass for the subs in the whip. This is one of the most awaited Three 6 releases, If y'all are about sex, money, drugs, gangsta tales & shock value, y'all won't be dissapointed. Also look out for DJ Paul "Volume 16: For Da Summa" (a lot of Three 6 bangers) & the new Three 6 Mafia album "Unbreakables".

4.0 out of 5 stars Best Juicy J Album, May 21, 2010
This review is from: Chronicles of the Juice Man: Underground Album (Audio CD)
If you only buy one solo album from anyone with Three 6 Mafia, this is the one to buy. If your a pro you will get the Michael 5000 Watts chopped/screwed version with this as well. Def. a must have for any Three 6 Mafia fans. Roll up and roll out.

Why did no one pay attention to how awesome this release was?

Behind all the Three 6 Mafia hubbub, there was this solo release from Juicy J, who also produces many Three 6 tracks along side DJ Paul. Not only is this album much better than the majority of what comes out of Hypnotize Minds, but it even outdoes a lot his brother's work (Project Pat in case you forgot), which I hold in high regard.

The introduction is immediately thrown away, as expected, but "North North pt. II" lays a killer hook and has a great chorus, too. I often see "Pt. 2" next to tracks I always skip over, but not here -- it's close to Pat's original, and I love it.

"Who Da Buckest" is another hardcore hip-hop staple, and one of my favorite tracks from this album. It holds a verse from female rapper La Chat.(I really don't like her verse, but the inclusion is appreciated.)

"Gimme Head" picks the misogyny up again, just in case you forgot about it the first time you heard a Hypnotize Minds release, and "Like a Pimp" is a pretty choice cut, not including that horrible first lyric ("I ain't tha one with the magic wand, wand").

Now, the second half of the album is where Juice's inspiration really kind of shines. "Killa Klan" holds a famous Bone Thugs sample, and the bass hits harder than it has at any other time. "Smoke Dat Weed", believe it or not, actually samples a Linkin Park track to great affect. That's right - I said it. Only the Juice Man could take such a dull track and appropriate to such a great affect. And tell me you don't sing along to it, and I'll call you a liar.

The album's most endearing (and unexpected moment) comes with "Name It After Me", somewhat of a ballad in the hip hop world. It samples David Ruffin's "Statue of a Fool" and has Juice speaking very truthfully. It ends with a studio-held monologue/rant that I could do without, but regardless, this track kills.

I've always admired the hardcore, down to earth Hypnotize sound - some of this sounds like it was produced with a $30 synth and very little time (check out "Buck Gangsta Beat" for instance) - and this is one of the labels' shining beacons.

3.0 out of 5 stars True Three Six Mafia, December 15, 2004
This review is from: Chronicles of the Juice Man: Underground Album (Audio CD)
The album "Chronicles of the juice Maine" is a re-relese of Juicy J's undaground album from back in the day. The only orginal track is the "Soldiers from tha North side". Tracks such as "Buck Gangsta Beat", "Gimme Sum", and "Who Da Buckest" represent true Memphis undaground rap. "Like A Pimp" was a radio hit before the album was released even though the song is mediocre. My people and I rate an album by the number of bumpin tracks on a cd compared to the actual number of tracks. This one has eight bumpin junts out of 14 tracks. It's pretty good and a must have if you like to get krunk

5.0 out of 5 stars The Juice Hypnotizes, July 17, 2002

DJ Paul and Juicy J continue to amaze me. I was hoping that "Chronicles of the Juice Man" would be as good as or better than "Vol. 16 For Da Summer". I wasn't disappointed. Paul hooked up a great CD, and Juicy matched it beat for beat and song for song. There are some blazing tracks on Juicy's CD. Project Pat is on a couple of songs, and a lot of the CD is Juicy rapping about Pat's recent probation violation and jail sentence. As you would expect from the Juice, there's also a lot of songs about sex. La Chat is really prominent on the CD with her tight flows and witty lyrics (take that "Lady" Boo!!). Die hard Mafia fans will dig this. Those who haven't been hypnotized yet will be if they get this CD. Looking forward to "Unbreakables". Out.
