The Great STYX Trilogy,
By Jonas Psalter (Fresno, Ca) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Chronicles (Long) (Audio CD)
Helllooo fellow Stygians!! This is a great choice of three styx albums to be put together. Crystal Ball- 1976, The Grand Illusion-1977, Pieces of Eight- 1978. I'm 16 years old, Listening to this great music. But I still enjoy the new music/bands as well. Styx is SO underrated. Especially now. They have had two recent albums, CYCLORAMA- 2003, and the most Recent, Big Bang Theory- 2005. Both of these albums should be checked out by all.
Back to the item at hand. All three albums have a great sound, no audiable "cracks or pops" like on the Lp. Each Cd comes with a booklet. the only disappointing thing abouth this collection is that they are the EXACT same CD as if you were to buy each cd individually. I bought this thinking that the cd's would be remastered even more that the styx cd's already being sold, I was wrong, but didn't mind. It is SO much better listening to styx on Lp, but it is easier listeing on cd's if I'm traveling, or on the road. This is perfect for someone who does not have these records on cd yet, but if you do, don't bother, no surprises. on a side note. STYX HAS NOT LOST IT AT ALL. Even though Dennis DeYoung does tour anymore(which is a shame!), Styx is still Rockin' the Paradise. I went to go see styx at the Big Fresno Fair, That was one of the best concerts that I have ever been to. Styx ROCKS!!!

It is what is is,

And what is is really isn't a Chronicle of Styx, it's just three of their albums really in one set. Grand Illusion of course had some great songs (Come Sail Away, Miss America, Man in the Wildnerness, and Castle Walls, as well as radio favorite The Grand Illusion). Crystal Ball was a really weak album, but did have the song Crystal Ball as well as Mademoiselle. And Pieces of Eight, while having song bad songs like Pieces of Eight, Sing for the Day and Aku Aku, but did have Renegade, Blue Collar Man, Great White Hope and Queen of Spades.
For a true 'chronicles', my iPod has the following tracklisting: 1. AD 1928 / Rockin' the Paradise 2. Snowblind 3. Nothing Ever Goes As Planned 4. Too Much Time On My Hands 5. Half-Penny, Two-Penny 6. Come Sail Away 7. All in a Day's Work 8. Eddie 9. The Best of Times 10. Renegade 11. Mr. Roboto 12. Boat on the River 13. Midnight Ride 14. Suite Madame Blue 15. Lights 16. Miss America 17. Babe 18. Crystal Ball 19. Love is the Ritual 20. AD 1958 21. Blue Collar Man 22. Music Time And while I was at it, I also put together a further compilation built around the Kilroy Was Here story with the following tracks which works really well: 1. Mr. Roboto 2. Cold War 3. Double Life 4. High Time 5. Love in the Midnight 6. Into the Fire 7. Why Me 8. Just Get Through This Night 9. Show Me the Way 10. City of Holy Faith 11. Haven't We Been Here Before 12. Not Dead Yet 13. Still Feel Your Love 14. Girls with Guns 15. Don't Let It End 16. Man in the Wilderness 17. Heavy Metal Poisoning 18. Castle Walls 19. Little Girl World 20. Don't Let It End - reprise 21. Back to Chicago
