5.0 out of 5 stars Great live band, August 25, 2005
This review is from: Chronicles of Love & Hate (Audio CD)
Caught these guys live a few weeks back and they put on an amazing show. Their original music is some of the best stuff I've heard in a long time, and I don't say that lightly. The guitarist is phenomenal. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this CD to anyone who's into metal. I have a feeling these guys are going to go a long way.

This band has come a long way over the last couple years, and with the addition of Doug and Shane to the band, Bullistic is an unbeatable force in the world of hard rock.

Doomsday Is Coming pounds you and gets you ready to bust some skulls while tracks like Ignorance & Innocence and Eulogy show you the deeper side of the band without losing their edge.

This is a must have album

5.0 out of 5 stars in your face ROCK!, January 9, 2007
This review is from: Chronicles of Love & Hate (Audio CD)
this is one of the best cd's I have bought in a few years. every song is exquisitely done, with deep, angry lyrics that are fierce yet melodic. i am not a fan of bands that sing like they have a hairball and continually growl and rumble into the mic, that is not talent. doug gibson has talent...he can sing with that deep growling voice, yet still be understandable and immediately switch to rhythmic, melodic vocals (beginning of 'made of stone'). even the slightest rock/metal fan must have this album. buy this album now and don't waste one more second of your pathetic life not listening to Bullistic!

my favs: discarded soul, eulogy, now & forever,...heck they're all my favs!

Bullistic

Chronicles Of Love And Hate Backstreet Records

by Matthew Hoffman Staff Writer Hardrock Haven

A band with a singer who has the perfect rock voice, a kick ass top shelf guitarist and solid bass and drum lines? Oh yeah, that's Bullistic! This Richmond, Va. based band is the total package and has something for everyone.

The music is like a toned down, slightly more musical Black label Society, mixed with a nice portion of Alice In Chains, and a smidgen of Nickelback and C.O.C. Decent recipe, huh? The songwriting is excellent with crafty rhythmic modern rock songs throughout. There is also plenty of expert guitar virtuosity by Ed Savoy in the vein of Zakk Wylde's tone, with a bit of Randy Rhoads technique thrown in for the guitar heads out there.
Solos in "Discarded Soul," "Now and Forever," and "Made of Stone" start the album out right, letting you hear the talent of Savoy and Co. "Made of Stone" and "Eulogy" show the singing talents of front man Doug Gibson, as he sounds plenty like Layne Staley in these two cuts. "Doomsday Coming" is a solid, harder metal track with Gibson sounding a lot like Zakk Wylde's vocals and Savoy lacing the cut with squealing "Wylde" leads.

The main point here though is that while they sound a lot like the two aforementioned bands, they are unique enough to create their own style and niche! Richmond has brought out the likes of talented bands like RPG and Lamb of God in recent years, and Bullistic seems primed to devour a big piece of the music scene in the Confederate Capital as well.

Bottom line is this is one of the sleeper surprise CDs of the year. As far as the best song, that view would be futile as they are all so damn solid. They also do a kick ass party style cover of "Stuck in the Middle," Stealers Wheel. These boys have created one of the most cohesive musical rock/metal albums in recent memory! 5.0 out of 5 stars It's that damn good, September 20, 2005
This review is from: Chronicles of Love & Hate (Audio CD)
The Good
Right off the bat "Now & Forever" comes at you like a sucker-punch to the jaw with crushing riffs and monstrous vocals. The best part of Doug Gibson's vocals is that they manage to stay melodic despite his deep tones and angry delivery. Guitarist Ed Savoy tears into a solo that would make the rock guitar gods proud. I can't forget to mention the furious pounding drums of Shane Kellis and the thick bass lines of Craig Lague. The band's little trademarks dominate throughout the album. An ominous riff leads you into drum heavy verses on "Discarded Soul". Gibson's haunting vocals reflect is emotional torture and pain.

"Eulogy" uses watery guitar tones and familiar changes to help lead the track. You'll probably hear a Godsmack influence in the arrangement. The track starts off mellow but burst into a fury of distortion and rage. Savoy hold back a bit on his solo, but still shows you what he's got. "Doomsday's Coming" uses a riff that rivals Accept's "Balls to the Wall", but Accept has nothing on the driving power this track delivers. Bullistic adds some well-deserved thunder behind their cover of "Stuck in the Middle". If it could have been done this way originally, this might very well be the ultimate rock track that everyone looked up to.

"Tired of You" has one of those stinging riffs that will inspire you to take up the guitar. The track barrels along like a runaway freight train. Kellis' drum skills are put on prominent display during "Good Luck with That". What respected modern rock band doesn't have a killer acoustic track? Bullistic sneaks right in there with "Ignorance & Innocence". There are some great vocal harmonies on the choruses.

The Bad
The fact that you don't have it. And you call yourself a heavy metal fan?!

The Verdict
Honestly, I expected a bunch of unintelligible screaming yahoos when I got this CD (that seesm to be the case with most metal bands these days). Boy was I wrong! Bullistic deliver in-your-face monster riffs with meaty, yet tuneful vocals. If you took the best parts of Pantera, Godsmack, and Anthrax (with John Bush), you'd have Bullistic. It unusual for me to give such a high rating for a debut release, but I'm going to go out on a limb because the Chronicles of Love and Hate is that damn good.
