5.0 out of 5 stars Very interesting hybrid
Chronicles of Mystery is a spinoff of a PC version of this game. Although the PC version is a classic adventure game, DS version has a different approach. The game is a mix of a hidden object game, adventure puzzles and most importantly, a lot of cool minigames, all this together makes a hybrid that surprisingly works really well. The graphics are great, story is not mind...

3.0 out of 5 stars Too Short
It is a good game, but it is way too short for the price. I beat the game in less than a day, and there are no unlocks after you beat the game.

The game is a mix of a hidden object game, adventure puzzles and most importantly, a lot of cool minigames, all this together makes a hybrid that surprisingly works really well. The graphics are great, story is not mind blowing but it fits the climax perfectly and the amount of additional content consisting of hidden object games and minigames is impressive. I would definitely recommend this game to anyone that likes adventure and puzzle games.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great game with good story and nice puzzles, October 30, 2009
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Chronicles of Mystery: Curse of the Ancient Temple (Video Game)
If you ever enjoyed one of Layton's adventures for DS or if you were fan of Mystery Case Files - this is definately something of interest to you. It's another very nice sample of how Nintendo DS is good platform for adventure games. Story is interesting and tends to keep you wanting to solve the mystery. I liked the quite unique gameplay (it's mix of adventure mechanic and hidden object style). I absolutely love the graphics! Music could be better, but it fits game well. After beating the main story mode you can run for higscores in minigame mode (and quite a lot of minigames there are) or you can have some quick fun with additional typical hidden object scenes gathered in what they call 'Hidden World' mode. Generally if you are adventure or puzzle fan - it's highly recommended. And for it's price - it's quite a bargain.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cool mixture of adventure and puzzle game !, October 28, 2009

This is a really good adventure game. Interesting puzzle and riddles, good story and cool graphics. Altogether - I really did enjoy playing it although the game could be a bit longer. After story, there are also quick play (hidden world) and minigames (all of this unlocked while you complete the story) that allows to play with the game a bit longer. Anyway - good fun and my recommendation !

Do NOT - I repeat - Do NOT spend 20 dollars on this game. Buy it used here or in a store or borrow it from a friend!!! I read all the other reviews before purchasing this game. I like hidden object, mystery, and story mode games, so, this seemed perfect. Here are the problems: there are only 13 levels. That may seem like a lot, but, considering one level takes only a few minutes, it actually isn't. There are no instructions during gameplay. Sylvie enters a room and that's it - you have to "feel around" for what exactly the next move is, where you're supposed to go, or what's she's supposed to 'pick up.' That may not seem so bad (and it isn't) but there were times I was clicking over the entire screen and had no idea what I was doing. Luckily, there is a question mark which you can click that will *sparkle* over the area you're supposed to head to. I didn't use it too much but was glad it was there. There aren't enough clues, though. When she DOES enter a room and is given a list of things to find, they are very easily found and eight items is the most she is supposed to find at one time. Likewise, the mini games are entirely TOO easy, they can be finished within seconds. I finished this game within a few hours and I wasn't even playing consistently. I had to get up to take care of my animals and my house, so, I wasn't immersed in it. And that's in "story mode," so, the game was lengthened that I played. You can go back and play the game in a shorter mode or play the mini games, but, as I explained before, both are extremely easy, so, why would you bother? For a teen or younger, this game would be great! I'm sure they would have hours of fun and depending on the age, may become stumped (which would be a good thing). For an adult, this game just doesn't cut it! Try Cate West or CSI, both of which are far more challenging, have more mini games, and are worth the money. Even Mystery Case Files: MillionHeir is a longer (and somewhat harder) game. I'm extremely annoyed that I spent over 20 dollars (with shipping) for this game so that it can now sit and collect dust. Please don't make the same mistake!!!

I love these type of games and this one was good. I found though that it was very easy to finish and finding some of the items were a challenge. Only in that they were too small to see. I still liked thgame though. For the money not bad but I would'nt have paid any more.

This game started out promising. I really liked that it was a classic hidden object game for the DS. But sadly, good things must end.

The game is just too short. It goes by too fast and the mini games are kinda lame. If you like hidden object games, I would recommend something like mystery case files. This game just wasn't as good as I thought it would be. Wait for it to be super cheap and then check it out.

2.0 out of 5 stars Too short!, February 20, 2010
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Chronicles of Mystery: Curse of the Ancient Temple (Video Game)
I got this game for Christmas and I played it for maybe 2 hours, then picked it up a few days later and was done with it it after another few hours! I couldn't believe how short it was. I was really into the game and thought the problem solving was somewhat challenging, but then it just ended! I kept thinking maybe I missed something. Even the mini-games are boring because they are the same games you already played, and the hidden objects are always the same objects just in different rooms so you get used to what they are. I wouldn't recommend this game unless you can borrow it from a friend or get it really cheap. It's only going to occupy you for about a day. The only reason I gave this 2 stars is because it was fun while it lasted...

I like MillionHeir better, but this satiates my desire for a new seek'n'find game. The game is very simple, the story is cute, but ending is abrupt and dumb. I've come to accept the fact, especially when it comes to handheld game systems, you can pretty much give up on story line, or having them make sense.
Some of the items are near impossible to find, so you will need to use the help to locate them. I guess the programmers forgot they were dealing with a credit card sized screen and not a 42" LCD.

2.0 out of 5 stars Entirely too short., October 19, 2010
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Chronicles of Mystery: Curse of the Ancient Temple (Video Game)
I bought this game expecting a bit more of a challenge, like I'd been getting with the Professor Layton games. Imagine my surprise when fours hours after I had bought the game I had finished the storyline. I was utterly shocked.
The levels were mildly interesting but some of the tasks were not really explained well. At some points you ended up with items and not really any explanation in how you were to apply them. So you're clicking around just guessing until you get frustrated and use a hint.
I guess overall I was just expecting *more* out of this game. I was disappointed.
