Chronicles of Mystery: The Tree of Life is a single player mystery game for PC in which players find themselves entangled in, and tempted by, one of the oldest and most alluring quests ever dreamt of, the search for immortality. A point-and-click adventure, featuring the engaging heroine, Sylvie Leroux, Chronicles of Mystery: The Tree of Life requires first-rate puzzle-solving skills and logical thinking to solve a mystery set in exotic spots around the globe, as well as throughout time itself.
For centuries people have risked their lives and committed unspeakable crimes to discover the secrets of The Tree of Life. Times have changed, but not human nature. As Sylvie Leroux -- a young archaeologist and adventurer, working to solve the mystery that surrounds the legend, finds herself tempted by the same promises like so many others before her. What is linking the mystery of the missing crew from the Mary Celeste with a trunk dating back to the conquistadors? Who is the enigmatic Count of St. Germain? In order to get answers to these and many more questions, Sylvie will set on an epic journey which will lead her across the channels of Venice to the dark alleys of Cairo, rocky coasts of Gibraltar and into the unknown. Got a gift card for xmas and got the Tree of Life and it plays very well actually. The plot is better than the first and the graphics are as good. with Her Interactive and City Interactive cranking out PC adventure games at the production rate of 4 a year PC adventure games will never die out. Butt, I have not bought a full price adventure game since Dreamfall was released 4 years ago - and this game is almost as good as Dreamfall at a fraction of the price.
Overall, this is a highly rated adventure game - a true masterpiece and classic PC game - much improved over the first and plays like a dream too - no bugs of any kind. City Interactive now put out the best adventure games - especially for the price. For replay value this game like so many adventure games like Broken Sword and Nightlong is limited - there is only one ending possible.

This is a game for those who like puzzle. It is a click and find game - and it is not as easy as it seems. I am an adult, in my fourties, and I just love games like this. It is a really challenge - and best of all - I am the person who solve things. The game has scenes which is very difficult, and a wrong move makes you "dead". Good luck!

"The Tree of Life" the second installment in the "Chronicles of Mystery" series, and I had really high hopes that it would be better than (or at least equal to) the first game "The Scorpio Ritual." Unfortunately, I felt that the story was somewhat disjointed, the majority of the puzzles made very little sense, and there was a weird lag about halfway through the game. Although it fell flat in these areas, it was saved by amazing graphics, simple gameplay, and just a basic fun factor.
Story - The story starts out with you, an archaeologist made somewhat famous for writing a book based on your adventures in the first game, being asked asked to examine a chest full of relics thought to be very valuable. Once you have examined it, though, you have to rush off to talk about your new book, where you soon find out that you have to go somewhere else in order to talk to a mysterious count. That may sound confusing and not much like a story, but you really just seem to run from one place to another the entire game, and you never really finish what you are doing at one place before you are leaving for another. It can get quite confusing, and, like I said before, it was very disjointed. Gameplay - The "Chronicles of Mystery" series is a third person, point-and-click adventure series. You walk around a certain location, pick up random items, use these items to interact with other items, and talk to the people at the location. It's very straightforward and not complicated to get used to at all. You can skip through the conversations if they are going to slowly for you, but you will probably still enjoy them since the characters are often unique and fun to talk to. I found there to be a lag in the game about halfway through, but I do not think it was my personal copy, though, because my game worked perfectly the first half. Puzzles - The puzzles turned out to be largely inventory-based, which was a huge downfall. You would usually have to find a tiny, tiny hotspot hidden from view, and you are expected to place an item on that barely noticeable hotspot. I was forced to use a walkthrough at several points, much to my shame, but I never would have known what to do otherwise since these hotspots were so incredibly inconspicuous. The only in-game hint system that there is would be this question mark button you can push that will put a question mark on top of items to look at, items to pick up, or locations to walk to. It did not help with finding the mini hotspots, though. Besides the inventory puzzles, there were a few timed puzzles and a couple of logic puzzles, but the majority of the puzzles had to do with the many inventory items you pick up in this game. Graphics/Sound - The graphics, much like in the first game, were excellent in this game (with the exception of the stiff characters). The cutscenes were amazing as were the backgrounds, and I thoroughly enjoyed looking at the locations. The music was also very nicely done; there was a wide variety of music tracks which allowed me to not get bored of the same song playing time and time again. The voice acting was just so-so, unfortunately. Most of the characters did not sound like the actual character would sound like. For instance, it sounded like an adult male was voicing the character of a young boy, which was slightly disturbing. Overall - All in all, this is an OK game. The story is confusing as are the puzzles, and, also, my game had a funky lag in the second half. However, the graphics and music were enjoyable, and I really did enjoy playing through the game. I would recommend it if you are hard pressed for a relatively good adventure game, or if you really, really liked the first game and want a follow up to it.
